200 students on a University of Florida business course admit to cheating on an exam, after being called out on it by their professor.

The professors response to this.... offering a makeup exam and no academic punishment to those who come forward before being outright discovered, is pretty cool on his part, considering how obviously annoyed he is.

On the other hand, it does save a massive amount of administration on behalf of the college. 200 cases of cheating is a lot of investigation/interviews, along with a lot work trying to figure out who's trying to shift the blame, and who's being framed. This removes a lot of them from the investigation.... and does serve as one hell of a lesson to those involved. While those who do stiff it out and try to sneak through, get the full whack.

I'd hate to be one of the students that didn't cheat, and did well enough to score in the same range as the cheaters.

Given that they are talking about a testing database I assume this is a scantron-like system.

Assuming that, there is no way to distinguish people who studied hard from those who cheated, based purely on the test results.

I would think that a few could be exempted by past performance (a student who scored an A on previous tests, and scored an A on this test shouldn't be a target).

But for the rest it would be up to the school to dig through email and the like to track down who cheated.

Kinda sucks to be one of the students who didn't cheat, you have to take the test all over again. But I guess that is a good way to invoke negative peer pressure against it happening again.

That must have been one hell of a stunt, considering how UF does scantron testing.

UF uses software that randomizes the order that questions come in, you get a test with a 5 digit code on it that you input into the last five answer bubble lines on your sheet, this tells the machine which key to use for scoring your test.
EDIT: I just read the article.  This is the University of Central Florida, not the University of Florida.  I dunno how they do things down in Orlando.
