_awesome_.

Whenever I've ordered a game from them, it Just Works on a modern Windows OS.

prices are good, and the place is 'legit'.

I've bought from them before (Heroes of Might & Magic III and Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura). All the games they sell are DRM-free and also rejiggered to work on modern OSes and widescreen monitors. There really is no better way to get a classic game, and they're dirt cheap.
Really, Really awesome. Ever game I've gotten from them has worked (with only a bit of jiggering for *one* of them) on my Win7 and WinXP machines. Just like the name says, you can't go wrong with Good Old Games!
totally legit, and well worth spending money with.

I haven't bought from them yet, but they are legit and their products are supposed to be of good quality.

Their marketing team on the other hand...

B: "Have you forgotten so soon? They're phasing out Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Uh, Catty, not to put to fine a point on it, but most of that misunderstanding was on the consumer side. The only concrete statement I ever saw about the event was that they were "Closing down the GOG Beta website" and "Putting an era behind us". A lot of the consumers (myself included) assumed that they were shutting down personally, when all they were doing was taking the website out of beta and starting 'true' GOG service.

Here is the full letter, make your own judgment as to weather it was misleading. Keep in mind if it was just a misunderstanding they apperently didn't respond to reporters emails asking for clarification and/or details. It got them a lot of coverage, on the other hand it's a kind of assholish thing to do.

Quote:Dear GOG users,

We have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG.com the way it is. We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form.

We're very grateful for all support we've received from all of you in the past two years. Working on GOG.com was a great adventure for all of us and an unforgettable journey to the past, through the long and wonderful history of PC gaming.

This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.

On a technical note, this week we'll put in place a solution to allow everyone to re-download their games. Stay tuned to this page and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

All the best,
GOG.com Team

Also keep in mind this lovely litte gem also by gog;

Quote:We know our little game with closing down the site made some of you angry. Once again we’d like to apologize to everyone who felt deceived by us closing down GOG.com without any warning and without giving you access to your games. We apologize for that from the bottom of our hearts, it was done with the best of intentions and hopefully we can make it up to you!

So yeah if you had the bad luck to buy at around that time you wouldn't have gotten your game for a few days. How's that for customer service?

They screwed up, it happens but whenever I get asked for my opinion on GOG I'll always remember this little gem.

It was a joke. It's your right to get offended, I suppose, but I wasn't.
What I want to know is: if these versions have been tweaked to run on modern computers, will the old fan-mods still work? I don't play Baldur's Gate 1+2 without modding them out to the gills.

take a look at the forums.

I think it depends on the game. I know the mods I had for fallout 2 still worked.
