Sad news via the FFML (http://www.chez-vrolet.net/pipermail/ffml/]web archive here, specific message http://www.chez-vrolet.net/pipermail/ff ... 04294.html]here).

Apparently Brian Randall chose to take his own life this month.

Damn.
There is also a forum discussion started by the originator of the news here:

We've lost another of the greats. There were precious few as good as he at crafting a story.

Then the horns kicked in...
...and my shoes began to squeak.
Indeed.
Bugger.....I don't think I've read anything of his in awhile, and I can't remember if I'd a favourite nor if it was a finished piece. A thing mostly down to the same thing everyone else has mentioned, they drifted, lost track hadn't communicated in awhile. The breakdown of certain communities, a withdrawal from places and limited places to view his work probably didn't help things.

Now, I need to recall what I've done with my off-line archive for I'm sure I've got something of his (and others) there.
I'll admit -- my first gut reaction was "now I'll never know how those stories end!" Which is downright selfish of me, but I'd like to think it's a compliment to his writing skills. I know that "Kyon -- Big Damn Hero" was one I always looked forward to updating, and he was doing some really interesting things with Naruto&co in "Motivation."

...dammit.
