One of the things that struck me is that although the spokesman favors a fairly mundane explanation -- oh, it's not a meteorite; the rover just by accident sort of "kicked" it into that spot -- nonetheless, he mentions that the rock's chemical composition is "like nothing we've ever seen before."  So they accidentally called their attention to something that turns out to be unusual aside from the not-fully-explained circumstances of how it got there.
