We've all heard of craft breweries. Ottawa now has a craft distillery, "North of 7". They're charging roughly $40 per bottle - more than "bar brands," but less than the high-end labels.

I didn't try their gin. Their rum won't be bottled for another month.

In Canada, it's against the law to call something "Canadian whiskey" unless it's aged for three years, and North of 7 isn't that old yet. They did draw off and bottle some of the "white dog," which I got to try. It shows enough promise that I look forward to 2017.

The vodka ... ah, that's a lovely drink. It isn't the tasteless stuff that I understand is the only "vodka" available by law in the USA (and thus is the only thing stocked in our liquor stores as well). It has a subtle flavour, reminiscent of potato without being overpowering. This is the bottle I bought ... and I'll admit I bought it for the label as much as for the taste:

Heh! Gotta send one of those to SJ in Austin.
