In practical terms, being a non-mainstream thinker usually does not mean you're an independent seeker of truth, it means that you're a gullible fool swallowing crackpot woo because it lets you feel superior.

See the various forms of alternative medicine, sovereign citizens, 9/11 troofers, trump and young earth creationists for just a few examples.
true, you need to find a middle path. automatically rejecting anything mainstream is no better than accepting anything mainstream.

Or is ordered to report for jury duty.
Sssh.... they'll be giving corporations the vote next if we push that agenda.
I'm fine with it if we can send corporations to jail when they kill or defraud.

There's an entire industry in the Netherlands that tracks parties and candidates, their agendas, their promises, what they did over the past session, and their political history, that collates it, cross references it, considers it, examines it, and turns the result into online and newspaper tests, graphs and tables so that the voter can know and reference it all and make a decision as to who has their vote.

For free. Well, a monthly fee if you are reading a newspaper, as it's part of the paper's normal publishing cycle.

The Netherlands isn't the only country that has this - Canada uses Vote Compass, too. (And we know there's an election coming up this year, so it's already tracking promises.)

And another thing Canada does that wasn't mentioned in the comic (because it wasn't about Canada): Elections Canada does not have a budget for actually holding elections. Instead, they are required by law to spend whatever it takes in order to ensure everybody who wants to vote, can vote in a timely manner.

RE: "Hustling"

They actually are using two meanings for the word here.

In one case, yeah, they want you to think you have to "hustle" to make it in the world.

But in the other? They want you to try to be a "hustler" - to join them in the game of playing the stock markets, where they have more experience and you will probably lose big.

Mr. Rosenberg, I have some news for you, and you might want to sit down for this because it could be a shock to you:

The USA is not the only country in the world.

The USA is not the only country that buys oil.

When the second-largest supplier of oil to the entire world - not just your own country, but every country everywhere on the planet - is shut out of the market, the supply of oil on the planet drops.

And the simple laws of supply and demand say that when supply drops and demand doesn't, prices rise.

This is grade-school math. (Or at least it was when I was in grade school, many years ago.)

Claiming that there is no justification for gas prices going up just shows that you should not be a contestant on "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?"
