Years ago, a Ford driver I worked with would needle me about my car being a Chevrolet, saying, "Friends don't let friends drive Chevies." Then one day he had a minor accident: he was under his vehicle, parked in his driveway at home, to do some maintenance work ... and the parking brake released. Luckily, none of his body parts were in the way of the wheels, so the Ford just rolled away from above him, and it didn't even pick up enough speed to crash into anything at the bottom of the slope. I note that while proper use of grammar and correct spelling are both part of written language, they are not about the same things.

It is completely possible to make no grammatical error while running your editor's red pen dry through spelling errors, and in so doing not offend your Grammar Nazi sensibilities.

Spelling is about how you write your words, grammar is about the place of words in a sentence.

Oh, god, tell me about it. It's been two years since the last time someone showed up on my porch and offered to shovel. I desperately wanted someone to come by the last two big storms because I strained my arm way back in November and it's only now finally healing. There's a $50 bill on my nightstand just waiting for the right kid and his shovel, but he hasn't come by yet.
