Mirai (
Moldiver, Kara reminded herself) sniffed derisively. "This Henshaw guy sounds like a real jerk," she said.
"Indeed," Luna agreed, serenely bobbing on her broom. Kara was suddenly struck by a sense of unreality at the thought of the eight of them sharing a little girl talk several hundred feet above the city streets. "He sounds most unpleasant. He must have a severe wrackspurt infestation."
And Luna, Kara had already realized, brought a sense of unreality all her own to any situation.
"I can't believe he blames you for this Fort Ras thing." Makoto (
Sailor Jupiter, Kara mentally annotated again) clenched her fists and scowled. Little lightning bolts crackled out from her eyes and between her fingers, which Kara thought looked very cool. "The man is a paranoid xenophobe, that's what he is."
"I mean, really," Lisa --
Sailor Loon, and Kara just
had to ask her where that name came from -- added. "Blaming a 13-year-old who was
asleep at the time?" She shook her head. "If he thinks aliens are so scary, we should show him something really frightening."
"Like what?" Skuld asked, her great white wings flapping lazily. "Summon one of the Great Old Ones?" She grinned nastily. "Cthulhu might have an extrusion in this universe -- we could ask him to come out and play."
"Cthulhu nothing," Lisa shot back. "What about your family, and Rei's? Imagine how he'd react to learning there are 12-dimensional beings out there who can edit a universe easier than you can change a Word document!"
"Ooooh!" Kaolla Su squealed, leaving spirals of jetpack exhaust behind her as she did loop-the-loops. "Do you think this world has a Gamera? Or maybe we can borrow one from another Earth?"
Kara couldn't help but smile. She'd never realized just how much she'd needed a genuine peer group to interact with -- Alex was her sister and she loved her dearly, but as experience had shown was not quite the right person to talk to about super-powered issues. Suddenly falling in with almost a dozen extraordinary girls, all of whom could really
relate to her in a way Alex couldn't -- well, Kara was really going to miss them when they moved on.
Edit: Better choice of giant monster for Kaolla Su.
