I've just gone looking through the Stub pages. Many of them are either quick writeups of background elements we've never used in-story, or are writeups of particular people's characters, locations, or ships. I've de-stubbed the 37 "background elements" pages.

Removing from the remaining list the 67 pages that particular people really should be fleshing out because they're about their story elements (people, places, or things), that leaves us with 92 stubs. Roll a d100 and re-roll anything above 92 ... 56 - Kyon. No, I'm not re-opening that can of worms; re-roll. 76 - Solomon Space Agency. Blackaeronaut and I are supposed to work on that one, so it's no fair pushing the job off onto other folks; re-roll. 48 - Independent Faction, a Major Faction. The description we've got there is more than good enough for a Minor Faction, but this is one of the Big Six Factions, so it's a bit lacking. Besides, they're probably running Serenity-Con, so we really should know more about them. Have at it, folks.

The smallest of the one-fandom major factions, the Jossies are few in number but deeply devoted to their cause. In true emulation of their icons they’ve set up shop in the Jovian system, with plenty of moons to work with.

Broad brush painting gives us a group of people who are, at least technically, libertarians; their greatest desire as a person is “leave me alone, man.”

In Fenspace, there’s a funadmental schism in the Browncoats, leaving us with three subfactions. They’re not named or recognized as units, but they do tend more to their own.

The first group is the more militant side of the Browncoats. These are the Captain Mals of Fenspace, tending towards swashbuckling and gallantry. The horrible interpersonal relationship skills are not mandatory.

The second subspecies of Browncoat are the spiritualists, those who identify more with Book and (not surprisingly) River. Some of their members have been experimenting with mental augmentation, with varying results.

The remaining Browncoats are not so easily distinguished. They’re the “rank and file,” the people who run shops and ship freight, working at building a new world.

Hokay, here's a new opening for the article, plus some random notes off the top of my head. Everything here is up for grabs, so if you see something you like, build on it!

The '''Independent Faction''' (also known semi-officially as the '''Coalition of Independent Moons,''' and more generally as the '''Browncoats''' or '''Whedonites''') is the smallest of the major factions in the [[Fenspace Convention]. It is also the most isolated of the factions, being based in the [[Jupiter] sub-system rather than in the inner Solar System or Main Belt.

The Browncoats are best known for their agricultural exports - the Jupiter area has become the ''de facto'' breadbasket of Fenspace.

==History==
In another universe, one where Joss Whedon contented himself with overwrought pseudo-feminist vampire dramedies and/or near-future science fiction with creepy-as-hell subtext, the majority of the Browncoats would've found their niche with the [[Heinleinians]. (Ed. Note: This may be revised or redacted, as the writer has a bias & is not particularly shy about it)

General notes:

History: Browncoats first came out around '09-'10 - hey, this year! - started settling on Ganymede and Callisto. Started making ag shipments to the inner system (read Mars, Luna & Venus + luxury "more-money-than-sense" Whole Foods market on Earth) around 2012; shipments getting interdicted was one of the casus belli for the Boskone War.

Government: Damned if I know on this one. A quick gloss of the available material doesn't have much at all on how the canon Browncoats worked, if they in fact did. Whedon = not much of a worldbuilder, I'm afraid. Probably the best way to work would be a unicameral republican government with an executive head of state (President, of course; these *are* American fen setting things up, after all) and then a Senate (or whatever) with each Browncoat dome sending a rep. It's not a *great* fix, but... well, you guys can play w/ it.

Culture: Western & Southern US with some SE Asian influences (see below). Lots of hats, waistcoats, pocketwatches, cowboy boots, etc. Not many horses - no real place to put 'em, plus they don't take the haul from Earth as well as other livestock. Just watch the damned show for a take on that.

Browncoats & Indonesia: Lots of ag work + Rugged Individualists[tm] = a major market for skilled farmers. Indonesia has a lot of people, many of whom are skilled farmers, and the Browncoats pay well. There's a *lot* of both contract work (2 years work on Ganymede or Callisto and home) and immigration. Indonesian slowly starting to replace Chinese as the exotic language of choice. Major Indonesian domes are Little Jakarta (best goat satay in the Solar System) and New Palu.

Industry: Light, mostly set up for dome construction & repair. Jupiter Mining does ice mining, a little hydrogen/helium mining & a lot of the transport work. Blue Sun is the general products/retail giant in the area, though as of 2015ish still more Ma's General Store than Wal*Mart.

"I. Drink. Your. NERDRAGE!"
"Jupiter Mining Corporation" is slightly a misnomer, but they do a lot of their own ice and gas mining to support their ever-expanding fleet of freighters and transports, with a sideline in selling their overstock to the locals. While he does not particularly claim it as a mantle, Jeph Antilles is considered an 'Independent', as he works hard, doesn't particularly cater to one faction or another unless one has given reason to deserve a lack of business, and as long as you also work hard and keep your nose reasonably clean while under his employ, he'll reward loyalty with like, exemplifying the typical ideal of the Independent Captain Mal. He just doesn't habitually wear a brown coat, which should cause some consternation, but doesn't.

Government: Government is loose, more frontier than most Fenspace, where the only real perceived need for it is to maintain the settlements, and to have a way to deal with the more intense sort of troublemakers. It is incredibly direct as these things go, where if one has a problem with the way things are being handled, one rides into Serenity Valley and talks with someone actually in the government... or one runs for office themselves. Otherwise, unless you take the effort to at least vote, most attempts to complain are usually given a glare of disapproval from those that are involved in some way. Most people tend to be 'let others be, we're all just folk'... except where the predations of the 'Reavers' are concerned.

Okay, here's what http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... nt_Faction]the page looks like currently. What is the "Blue Sun manufacturing facility" mentioned in the statbox?
