Moon Jae-in http://news.antiwar.com/2017/05/09/moon ... ith-north/ the presidential election in South Korea. From the linked article:
Quote:Moon is a major departure from the recent string of hawks in the
South Korean presidency, advocating peaceful reunification with North
Korea and promising to visit the reclusive nation at the first
opportunity after the election. He is seen as keen to return to the
Sunshine Policy of the early 2000s, aimed at improving bilateral ties
and trying to avoid war.

That’s not likely to sit well with the Trump Administration, which
has repeatedly panned diplomacy in general as a “failed” tactic and has
been talking up increasingly confrontational policies toward North
Korea. Moon, however, is well aware of this, saying he thinks it is very
important that South Korea should develop a less lop-sided relationship with the US ,and “learn to say no to the Americans.”
Hopefully learning to say no will include ejecting US troops from the DMZ. As long as they're in place, any US President can start a war with North Korea any time he wants.
The South Koreans would be insane to refuse the assistance of the US in helping to maintain the DMZ. Past incursions have shown that the DPRK will try just about anything, even dig tunnels under the DMZ, just to get one over their Southern counterparts.

Also, we don't want a pissing contest with the DPRK. The Pentagon is well aware of what the DPRK would do to the ROK within mere hours. And no amount of 'nuking the bastards' would stop them in time. We all know about the DPRK's reinforced artillery bunkers that are heavily resistant to nuclear blasts and would take far too long for the soldiers manning them to die of radiation poisoning.

We won't engage them. Mad Dog Mattis is too intelligent for that. Trump will have to fire him, first, or get Congress to pass a declaration of war. Unless we come up with some sort of trump card (heh).

Tail wagging the dog scenario. I wouldn't be surprised if this administration decides to get us into a conflict to get people's attention off the Russian affair.
