I will be at the arena tonight, is there anyone brave enough to challenge Pooky Da Imp, or face the awesome defense powers of Mag Flashlight in open combat?

Seriously, the arena is tons of fun, let's get some matches going! The Arena system also allows us to set Exemplar caps, so I can bring Pooky in at 45,
exemp down to 21, and face Valles on an equal footing - aside from the fact that Pooky's better looking, that is!

So bring it on. Let's see some action. I'll have both of my toons parked in Virtue's Pocket D tonight at the Arena pedestal, facing all comers.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979
Whew Cybes is a KEY teammate to have in Team PVP. Additionally, Nogi can slug it out to a draw against a tanker. ^_^

That was fun

What I learned:

To hate caltrops with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

There is no shame in hiding in a corner, summoning bots and cloaking them as fast as I can, to come into the fight a minute late and dish out glorious lasery
death. This only works if there is corner to hide in.

Nogi is a better PvP MM build than Clank

That was a LOT more fun than I imagined it might be.

Things I've learned:

Archery as a blaster set is in NO WAY gimped! Watch out for Pooky, he'll make a pin-cushion out of you! Fear da Imp!

Superspeed without superleap is difficult.

Superleap without Superspeed is gimp.

Invulnerability set for Scrappers? Might be gimped. I'll have to see what happens when I fill out the secondary on Vigdis Brightblade, but I was kinda
disappointed in her as a PVP fighter. Her Broadsword has OUTSTANDING burst damage potential though! I might have to consider rerolling her as a Willpower
Scrapper though.

On the other hand, Invulnerability for Tankers? Most definitely NOT GIMPED!

Watching Terrence against Nogi? Scary! Both in terms of all the various and sundry tools Nogi brings to the fight, and then watching Terry...

...JUST...

...WADE...

...THROUGH...

...THEM...

Neither of them could land a knock-out, but watching them both go hammer and tongs one on one for the whole 10 mins... whoa...

Kara Skye? NOT good one-on-one. But in a team with her buffing, debuffing, speed siphoning and the occasional Heal? Oh yes, NOW we're talking!

Nogi and Clank are both good to have as teammates. But the synergy between Cyberman's defense and Clank's bubbles was just UBER.

Speaking of bubbles. When they were opponents, C8 practically could NOT get a hand on Clank. I would've had to burn a LOT of yellows to do that. Sorry
Pooky, but you were punching bag of choice on that one by default!

And speaking of Cyberman 8: Able to get out of nasty situations, disappear in the blink of an eye, circle around and hit where least expected. Even able to get
out of caltrops fairly quickly. Or at least to continue to avoid further damage while doing so. Able to ROCK on offense constantly. (Even though he doesn't
have any single attack with the burst damage to equal Vigdis, Pooky, or Terrence.) And though he can be hurt badly if someone lands a good one on him, good
luck landing that hit! Particularly if bubbled! And perhaps most important, the ability to STUN people and then knock them around! Those stun IOs were WELL
spent! I am very proud of him.

The Monkey Fight Club map... HATE. The novelty wears off REAL FAST when you realize how friggin tight it is in there and how many obstacles there are to bump
into. Ironically, fliers may have a slightly easier time of it! YMMV. Even Cyberman 8 had trouble moving around in there. Kara Skye on the other hand was
mostly okay. Someone hovering near the ceiling either blasting or controlling in those girder filled spaces makes it DAMNED hard for a melee person to get to
grips. And why did it keep coming up in rotation so DAMNED much! Huh? (At least the characters I brought were able to get the rare badge in the middle of the
ring.)

The above also is true, though to a much less frustrating extent, in the ruined office map. The outside near the walls is pretty free, but the center with the
desks and the overhead office? Not so much.

Love the Perez Park map. I hope someday to see the "Dinosaur" map that Wiregeek kept mentioning.

All in all, with the ability to have more reasonable and structured combats, this is much more satisfying then Zone PVP.
I gotta get into this one of these weeks.

we'll hopefully see you next wednesday!

Quote:MM > Blaster

So very very true! The only thing I could do that was effective was a fully built-up Snipe attack from out of range, then _hopefully_ close in and blast some quick DPS to finish off the poor hapless mastermind.

Quote:Nogi and Clank are both good to have as teammates. But the synergy between Cyberman's defense and Clank's bubbles was just UBER.

This is also true - I could barely, occasionally, when AIMed, land a shot or two on Cyberman 8. scary wicked.

We didn't work out tactics beforehand, but that was the basic idea - I was the 'spoiler', giving Clank time to power up and get out the bots.. and it worked!

My favorite 'kill' of the night - Perez Park map, 3,2,1,GO! Tactical start, Immediately go fly, streak across the map and end up starting out pointed DIRECTLY at Clank. nigh-empty on Endurance, however.. Clank is resting. Flaming arrow, aimed shot, snap shot, dead mastermind.

Boo Ya.

See ya next wednesday!

I had a good time there, as my Blaster, Braende. I found out that Pookie and Braende were effectively balanced with each of our own preferred play styles.
Occasionally I could bring down the Imp in a hail or fiery goodness, and others I was naught but a flaming pincushion. I'm sorry I could stay up as long as
I had hoped, but I'll be there next week.

bump because it's wednesday! I might be a little late, but I hope to see a full scale BRAWL when I get home tonight!Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979
Clank will be online shortly, handing out lasery death (or bubbly goodness) to all.

Ankh? Sorry about that last fight with Mechanon. I only pieced together what happened after the fact. You re spawned in the exact same place and because my
bots still had you targeted.... well... wham-bam-thank-you-ma'm. I didn't even have a chance to see that you were down.

Sweno and Skye say that's a bit of odd code about Masterminds in the arena anyway. The bots/pets will tend to keep going after the last person targeted
regardless of whether they died or not. So if you have re spawned elsewhere, my bots likely would have run away from me to go after you even then.

Again - sorry for the frustration. I hope you don't stay mad.
Let me second Logan, and say sorry.

Pets are buggy in arena. The target never becomes invalid, so the bots will happily scamper off to cause further destruction.

If you feel up to it, we can square off with an AT that's not so flake-tastic.

Its alright. Just had a hard day, and that last fight wasn't helping. I was hoping to get a shot in with my AS, all stalkery like. The only problem being
Mech was surrounded my caltrops which unhide me, and Clank could see through my hide regardless. Just got a little angry, and went to sleep. I'm feeling
better now, at least.

Ah yes. I see. Glad you're feeling better.

Yeah - Mechanon is Robotics/Traps. Not a very mobile set, to be sure. Because if you move too much, you lose the benefits of like 80% of your stuff.

What /traps MM are absolutely SUPERB at is Area-Denial. Like last night - back into a corner and lay down the 'trops and acid morter and "puke
bombs".

Oh believe me - I've been frustrated by /traps Masterminds myself as Cyberman 8. He has NO resistances to the stuff they lay down.
The key to taking on Traps MMs is to use snipe attacks to beat their range, or to get at them before they can lay down their toys.

I have a Mercs/Traps MM at 27 on Freedom, and once I lay down the Mortar, Poison Bomb, and Healing Beacon, I laugh at all comers.

Kokuten

it's that 'laugh at all comers' line that makes me itch to get into the Arena with Brae on my team and start chewing reds like freaking tic-tacs.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979
how to enjoy a /FF mastermind:

1) bubble all your minions

2) tell them to attack your target

3) Personal Force Field

4) laugh and/or monologue as your opponent attempts to hit you and gets cut down by the bots.

4a) if they fail to attack you, drop PFF and force bolt them into a corner for their impertinence.

"And what does Baron von Ruthless do?"

"He starts monologuing?"

"He starts MONOLOGUING! Just yammerin' about how weak I am, and how inEVITABLE my defeat was, and how the WORLD will SOON be HIS."

If I'm going to keep playing a villain, I need to work on my monologue skills -- it seems to be a basic job requirement. I can do the witty one-liners --
"No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die." -- but rambling ravings of a madman are skills I just have not practiced. I'm so ashamed.
