"Now let's see. Weight: 105. Yeah. In your bra!"

"Your honor, I object!"

"You would!"

"Overactor!"

"Jezeb.......they're on to me!"

"I think I can confirm that he was followed," Amber said, pointing ahead at where several groups of Nemesis troops were loitering about in clear
guard positions.

"If they've caught him, who knows what'll happen to him. We've got to get him out of there," Alice said, drawing back her bow as she
closed one eye. Amber reached out into the men's minds, subtly turning them against each other as Gamma leaped into the fray, already putting out
enormous levels of radiation to weaken and disable soldier and automated Jaeger alike. Slowly battling their way through the waves, Inyme lost track of
anything but the combat until she felt a surge in Alice's emotions as she noticed something.

"There!" she said, pointing to an above ledge where a disarmed Nemesis soldier was facing a Warhulk, several more Nemesis Troopers, and one of
Nemesis's fake automatons of himself.

"The crime is treason against the Nemesis Army, and slander against the good name of Lord Nemesis himself!" the officer nearby said.

The man on trial sneered behind his own armored mask. "Good name? You have no idea how ridiculous you sound."

The officer scowled. "Vile cur! You'd dare besmirch the name of a loyal automaton of the Nemesis Army?"

Sherman shook his head sadly. "No, not at all. But really, old English? No one's talked like that since the damned 16th century!"

The False Nemesis made a vaguely odd noise as steam ejected from its ears and its staff crackled with power. "This is a perfectly acceptable mode of
speech! The market research groups..."

Sherman laughed disdainfully. "The market research teams are a load of bunk. Or lest we forget the wonderful incident of "I assure you, my good
man, Lord Nemesis is most definitely 'down with the street'. Word up, my homie as it were." The Freakshow agreed to work with us on that because
they were so amused by how badly done it was!"

"S-silence!" the flustered captain said.

Alice blinked, before doing a mental "duh" as she remembered Dietrich's(and Vanguard's) files would be up to date since the adoption
paperwork had gone through. She'd made the "Baker" last name up on her hero paperwork anyway, so this was more natural than anything, really.
"Well, it's something to do with this attack actual-" she stopped as a warden came up behind her.

"Captain Dietrich," he said. "We've...put together the list of casualties from the attack, before we were able to bring Medicomm back
up," he said.

Alice's ears flicked as she felt a wince of pain from Dietrich that had nothing to do with the broken ribs she'd sustained. "How many?"

"…twelve, ma'am….and….ma'am, I'm not sure how to say this…" he said, Alice's senses tingling at the feeling of dread emanating from
the warden.

"Bluntly, lieutenant. The more you hedge around it, the worse it gets," Dietrich noted.

"…it's Lieutenant Tendaji, ma'am…he's…dead, ma'am."

Alice started, as Dietrich blanched. "Sefu? That…that's impossible…"

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but….we have the body here. We were just…trying to figure out where to send the dead… I'll see to that then…" he said
softly, before turning away.

"No, I mean it's literally impossible," Dietrich noted sternly as she recovered her composure. "This is a war story. In that, it's
always the grizzled older veteran and mentor figure."

"Well, Sergeant McMillans also was killed during the fight and..."

"I'm afraid the captain's right, Warden Friars," Lieutenant Tendaji said, coming up behind him, much to the shock of everyone involved but
Dietrich herself. "After all, the black guy only dies first in a horror movie. Thank goodness there weren't any Banished Pantheon in this attack or
I'd be boned."

The group stayed close together as they made their way through the base, disabling a few patrols and eventually stepping past unconscious
Nemesis soldiers in what appeared to be the base's main engine room. Off to the side, however, was the commander's office and between herself and
Amber, Alice had it open in short order. The book inside, however, she opened gingerly….only to find drawn out specifications for the Manticore they'd
fought earlier…and Synapse…and Sister Psyche….and Statesman… Alice's eyes widened as she looked up at the others. Amber was calm, even if Alice could
feel a hint of the shock that actual confirmation had caused her. Rhea didn't bother to hide hers, while Lisa looked at it grimly, a hint of confirmed
acceptance in her mind. Inyme, however, was at the door when the blast doors they'd sealed earlier blew off their hinges in a single roar of green fire.
As Alice glanced over from the safe, her eyes widened as an armored figure stepped into the door. "Positron?!"

The armored hero looked toward her, before planting his hands on his hips. "I am sick and tired of these muthafuckin' heroes in my muthafuckin'
base!"

The surrounding contingent promptly fell apart laughing.

Quickly, Inyme shot the basics of the plan around the link to the other members, editing it slightly to make it more feasible to the group
who didn't know what she intended to do. Teleporting by Rhea, Inyme briefly felt her weariness lift as Rhea's abilities washed over her, replacing
the beginnings of exhaustion with more power than she knew she could generate on her own. Teleporting again, she drew Positron's fire as Gamma jumped
up, unloading a full EMP on the armored figure from behind. Energy crackled over the armor as he attempted to compensate, only for Alice and Amber's
telekinetic abilities holding him in place. Inyme warped in front of him as he looked up, energy leaking from his forearms in a vain attempt to scorch her
to the bone...

Which was when an arrow from offsides sent Positron flying into a nearby wall with its explosive impact, leaving Inyme to stare blankly at Alice crawling
out of the rubble. "Get away from her, you bitch!"

"Cut! Cut! Cut!" the director said as Positron awkwardly twisted his helmet back around into the forward position. "Alice, you know the
script!"

"Yeah, but I always wanted to say that!" she grinned back, high fiving Inyme.

Positron looked over at them for a long second before staring Inyme straight in the eye, the Rikti girl looking back at him in pure hate. "Inyme
W'tin....I....am your father!"

Inyme stared back at him in shock. "That's not true....that's impossible!"

Positron took a step forward, holding out one hand wreathed in radiation. "Search your feelings. You know it to be true!"

"But you're a robot! You don't even have any....y'know...."

"Your mother spent some time going to very odd corners of the Rikti mindnet....and Lord Nemesis is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to making
all his machines perfectly lifelike."

Ifrit looked at her, before sighing and hanging her head, leaning against Nene again. Nene stroked her hair gently.

"I know...your first instinct was to leap to Alice's defense....just like Inyme."

"How do you do that?" Ifrit mumbled into her hair.

"Do what?"

"Just...figure it out, perfectly, just like that."

Nene chuckled ruefully. "Well, it helps to read the script ahead of time," she said with a perfectly resigned tone. Ifrit looked at her for a long
moment before both of them burst out laughing.

Faced with such an impressive opponent, Inyme looked back at the slit pupiled eyes and the slightly mocking smirk and did the
first thing that came to mind: she spat, the blob of saliva failing to land on the Lady's expensive silk garments due to her quick movement, but landing on
the tip of her dark leather boots. Inyme comforted herself with the flash of annoyance that flickered for a microsecond in those golden fox eyes before she
regained her composure and smiled again.

"Well...it seems they were right. You are a feisty one, Rikti-chan." She smiled, letting the darkness flow
out of her cloaked figure and Inyme repressed an almost animal instinct level shudder at the kitsune woman's expressed control of magic. Just as she tried
to ignore the possibility of said mystical being making the jump to her body. It would be a rather mauled kitsune that would take control of it if she did,
Inyme noted grimly to herself.

Lady Nogitsune stepped closer, before draping herself around Inyme's restrained form, leaning in close as if in a lover's caress. The motion, and the
similarity in ears and eyes, stoked Inyme's angry resistance to her gestures and soothing words further. Finally, after the most recent "subtle"
attempts to get her hormones in a rush, Inyme had had enough and her eyes glowed briefly as her telepathy reached out.

In a nearby recording room, Private Castle and Corporal Majors stared at the monitor in slight amazement.

"I didn't know that someone could bend like that."

"I guess she's double jointed?"

"Tell me you're recording this."

"This is Vanguard HQ. Everything gets recorded."

"How much for a copy?" Majors asked as the display screen continued to play an image of a very bored prisoner sitting alone in her chair and an
interrogator that was very occupied with her own devices at the moment.

***

Lieutenant Sanderson came up to the prisoner's door, the sealed steel barricade opening as he came up and a slightly less than perfectly arranged Lady
Nogitsune stepping out. She smiled at the lieutenant who suppressed a shiver as he looked back in the door over her shoulder and got a rather annoyed
expression from the prisoner. "Gomen, Sanderson-chuii. I'm afraid
that I was unable to discover anything of use during our session. However, you can be assured that I will return to find what you need. No matter
how...vigorous...the methods need be," she noted, adjusting the lapels of her jacket delicately.

Inyme just scowled at the pair as they walked away, especially when the kitsune turned around and mimed call me over
her shoulder behind the lieutenant's back.

Bill felt himself growl in frustration as the electric cage crackled about him. He knew she could do it. In fact, he'd been expecting it earlier. But
she'd held off till she could corner him in the open and had zero chance to miss. But even as the electricity sizzled about him, sapping his strength and
holding him immobile, he grimaced, gritting his teeth as he pulled another arrow free. All he had to do was hit the gauntlets she was wearing....the ones
controlling the tesla cage. One quick shot at this range would be easy, especially as she stared, dumbstruck, at him as he raised the bow and drew it back. One
quick shot, and he'd escape, and she wouldn't be able to capture him again without going back for repairs. He'd get to Alice first. She began to
react to the impossibility before her even as he took aim, closing one eye quietly. Her hands came up, but instead of lightning, he felt his arms weaken again
as her powers sapped his strength. A part of him flinched as he let the arrow free too early, before he had time to adjust its trajectory towards its target.
And he gaped in astonishment as the arrow exploded, sending Nene flying across the rather bedraggled countryside in a series of momentum propelled bounces,
finally coming to a stop upside down against a broken wall.

"...mEdiC......."

Positron eyed the various heroes, before nodding. "LEEEEEEROOOOOOOYYYY JENKINS!!!!" he yelled, as the Nemesis troopers around him looked at the
armored figure charge.

"Dude, he just ran in!"

*CLACK*

"Alice! I need you to fire something at the War Walls!"

"What? Why?"

"It'll cause a disruption in them that'll let us get outside! However, it'll only be open for a second, so I need you to hop on!"

"Uh....okay...."

A quick hop, skip, and a jump later and Alice's legs were wrapped around Cyberman's torso from behind as his own arms locked them in place. Alice, to
her credit, didn't so much as flinch as she lined up the arrow on the walls, waiting for his signal as they bounced across several rooftops to get the
elevation necessary.

"Now?" she asked as they came to an edge.

"Not yet....."

Alice gulped slightly as they leapt off the edge towards the War Wall, the energy curtain flickering ominously in front of them. "Now?"

"Not yet!"

They reached the apex of the leap Cyberman could sustain with a passenger and began descending, the wind whistling around them. Alice held her bow steady
despite it, eye on the walls now without any other distractions. "Now?"

"Couple more seconds.....NOW!"

Alice released the arrow, which shot ahead with its improvised payload. Hitting the War Wall, it sparked and shuddered before fizzling out entirely, failing to
make the proper rupture at all. Cyberman winced involuntarily as Alice gave him a dirty look in the 2.4 seconds before impact.

Brightsky looked over her shoulder in confusion for a moment as a bright light erupted for a split second along a pinprick point on the nearest War Wall and
then faded out. Shrugging, she went back to her fight.

I....where am I?

A hospital, though that's not quite why I'm lookin' in on you.

Inyme frowned at the tone. Then why?

Mostly because I recognize someone with...similar problems. I like t' think I've gotten over mine, though, and can advise others of the dangers.

What dangers? What are you talking about?

You love her very much, don't you? Alice, I mean.

...what does that have to do with anything? Inyme noted sharply, her suspicions flaring.

I'll take that as a yes. I saw the recordings, Miss W'tin. You'd do anything for her, wouldn't you? That's just fine...so long as you keep that within reason. Or you start bein' willin' t'do
things she'd never want you to. Speakin' from personal experience, you understand.

Inyme scowled mentally, tired of the half-answers, and streteched out her senses. If this person wasn't going to answer her straight, she'd
find out for herself.

And for a brief moment, the link opened, albeit in the wrong direction, as both ends saw into Inyme's innermost memories.

"Ohhhh....yeah, right there....right...ohhhhh....oh, you're so good at that."

"I figure we can catch a quick shower before they want us by Synapse's pedestal."

"But we don't have enough time for both of us to show....oh......won't we be late?"

"They can wait a little bit..."

"We're keeping Sammy awake."

"It's my room, and if she objects to what I do with my girlfriend in it, she can find some way to deal with the thin walls herself. I don't intend
to miss out on one of our free weekends from crimebusting for something as small as that."

"Well, if you're...ohh...sure...ohhhh...oh yes...you're very sure...."

"Uh huh..."

"Alice?"

"*mrrrrrrrr*"

"....Alice?"

"*mrowwwwr*"

"*sigh* Not again."

"*mrowr!*"

Alice briefly blinked as a young woman in fairly immaculate semi-formal wear stepped out of Inyme's hospital room. Even moreso when she answered
Alice's questioning thought before she said it.

"Ah, yes, I'm Shizuru, I was just lookin' out for Inyme while we waited for you, so I imagine you'll have a lot to catch up on, so I'll be
goin' now," she smiled, heading off very quickly.

Alice blinked and looked after her before going in, rather confused by the meeting, though she did wonder where she'd gotten that nosebleed....

Shizuru, meanwhile, dialed her cellphone rather quickly. "Hello, Jeeves? Yes, fire up the private jet, I want to make a quick hop back to Tokyo, very
urgent.....personal business, Jeeves....no, it's quite alright, just....yes. Yes, that sort of personal
business....thank you, Jeeves."
