but unlocking epic arctypes at 20? that bugs me, what was the point of me grinding to 50 red side to get them now?
Well, bear in mind I've been in the game for... just shy of 3 years now, and have yet to get my redside epic, though I'm within spitting distance finally at 46. And the only reason I'm so close is I hitched on to the Unicorna XP Express after level pacting became available. I imagine there are a lot of players like me. Hell, when I started out, I don't think there *were* redside epics. (Anyone remember if they were here as of issue 9?)
Honestly, I've never *liked* the way you unlock them, red- or blue-side. I'd rather it was a quest thing, or a micro-transaction, or something along those lines. One of the reasons I've stuck with CoX so long -- and will be sticking with it for the foreseeable future -- is that it's very casual-friendly. I can pick up my toys and play with them and experience everything from event content to new ways to churn out those first 20 levels to epic end-game stuff and you-name-it... and yet I don't have to dedicate whole blocks of my life to it. WoW isn't like that, as much as they try to claim being casual-friendly. And CoX only got *more* casual-friendly with the Super Sidekicking system.
So for my money... hells yeah. This is about goddamn time. There's nothing truly 'epic' about the Epic classes, other than bragging rights, the ability to say "My e-penis is bigger because *I* have a level 50!" They may have some advantage in PvP -- about which I've investigated little and care less, but YMMV -- but for the game as as whole they're just another class, with different quirks. It's like making the change from playing a Defender to playing a Dominator. Yeah, things are *different*... but you just have to re-train your reflexes and learn the new pros and cons.
And if V is to be believed, Khelds are horribly broken anyway.
(Hi V! *wink*)
You say "what was the point"? I'd be inclined to agree. What *was* the point? You should be irritated that you had to do that in the first place, not upset that they're making it easier. I think the original-flavor unlock was a holdover from the Emmert Era, myself. Just one more thing that's finally being thrown out as they re-vamp the game to make it better.
(Granted, had the original method been a micro-transaction, and it was now becoming free... *then* I'd see grounds for righteous anger. But there we're talking about palpable impact.)
EDIT: Given the listed launch date, can I be the first to say "Golly gee, I hope this isn't a REALLY BAD ATTEMPT at an APRIL FOOLS JOKE, NCSoft!"
