...in his long and twisted path to get back to the Maggie
Billy Ocean, When the going gets tough.
When the going gets tough
The tough get going, tough, tough, huh, huh, huh
When the going gets tough, the tough get ready
Yeah, ooooh, du da do da
I got something to tell you
I got something to say
I'm gonna put this dream in motion
Never let nothing stand in my way
When the going gets touch
The tough get going
I'm gonna get myself 'cross the river
That's the price I'm willing to pay
I'm gonna make you stand and deliver
And give me love in the old-fashion way
Woooh
Darlin', I'll climb any mountain
Darlin', I'll do anything
Ooh, can I touch you (can I touch you)
And do the things that lovers do
Ooh, wanna hold you (wanna hold you)
I gotta get it through to you, oooh
When the going gets tough
The tough get going
When the going gets rough
The tough get rough
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Ooooh baby
I'm gonna buy me a one-way ticket
Nothin's gonna hold me back
Your love's like a slow train coming (slow train coming)
And I feel it coming down the track (woh)
Darlin', I'll climb any mountain
Darlin', I'll do anything
Ooh (ooh) can I touch you (can I touch you)
And do the things that lovers do
Ooh, (ooh) wanna hold you (wanna hold you)
I gotta get it through to you (ooh)
'Cos when the going gets tough
The tough get going
When the going gets rough
The tough get rough
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Wooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Darlin', I'll climb any mountain
Darlin', I'll swim any sea
Darlin', I'll reach for the heaven
Darlin', with you lovin' me
Oooh (oooh)
Oooh, can I touch you (can I touch you)
And do the things that lovers do (can I touch you)
Oooh, wanna hold you (wanna hold you)
I gotta get it through to you
When the going gets tough
Going gets tough
Going gets rough
Going gets rough...

Allthough Doug Doesn't know about it yet, the Proclaimers "500 miles" is also a good theme song for him:
When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you
But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles
To fall down at your door
When I'm working yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money comes in
For the work I'll do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you
When I come home yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow old well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you
When I'm lonely yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man whose lonely without you
When I'm dreaming yes I know I'm gonna dream
Dream about the time when I'm with you"I was an Otaku before those kids came along and changed the meaning of the word."

Actually, we talked about "500 Miles" here a long time ago. I think. My plan for that song was to use it as "7 league boots" -- while the song is playing, each step Doug takes is 500 miles long (which requires some clever geometry for him to get to specific locations).

Yeah, I thought it came up as a power song before, but it also works as a theme song for while he's on the walk too.
I forget what the inital release date on it was, but it could be figured as having been writen after Doug's return, sort of a nod to what he went through while on the walk."I was an Otaku before those kids came along and changed the meaning of the word."

I still contend that 500 Miles should be on the 'do not use' list due to severe groin strain.
It came out no later than the early 90's, IIRC, so it's certainly available.
That would probably be the backfire effect, Captain.
And yeah, it predates his departure on the Walk by a good couple years. It was used in "Benny and Joon", and that was what, 1995? And it was originally recorded a couple years before that.
