I wonder what Doug's powers would do with the hymn My Life Flows On in Endless Song:
Quote:My life flows on in endless song
Above Earth's lamentation;
I hear the real though far-off hymn
That hails a new Creation!
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing!
It sounds an echo in my soul;
How can I keep from singing?
What though the tempest 'round me roars,
I know the truth, it liveth.
What though the darkness 'round me close,
Songs in the night it giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that rock I'm clinging.
Since love prevails in heav'n and earth,
How can I keep from singing?
When tyrants tremble as they hear
the bells of freedom ringing,
When friends rejoice, both far and near,
How can I keep from singing?
To prison cell and dungeon vile
Our thoughts to them are winging;
When friends by shame are undefiled,
How can I keep from singing?
I don't know what to suggest in seriousness, but I cannot resist suggesting "Behaviour Control: Musical Theatre Tropes" with the effect ending at either midnight or a set number of hours after the song starts. Something like the Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling" (caveat: I've never seen "Once More With Feeling"; I only know it by reputation).
The last verse was a later addition to the hymn, so it's possible that with it and without it have different effects (though they would probably have to be notably different musical arrangements as well). The third verse suggests freeing those wrongly imprisoned.
Hm. Definite possibilities.
