There's a fellow over on the SJGames Forums who's doing conversions of the old V&V characters to GURPS, and posting the conversions in http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?p=1203980]a thread there.

I'm the Forum Pervert, and I endorse this idea.
We always thought the sample characters, while cool in concept, were very lame in execution. We never, ever rolled anything as weak as some of those samples...

Gee, that sounds like my Champions experience. Granted, I had some help, but my starting characters, even at the same point value, could easily wipe the floor with the entire sample hero team.
