Not exactly Fanfiction - but a long time  favourite Kiwi Internet Author of mine, G. Howell - has finally self-published his Series to Amazon Kindle:
Light on Shattered Water

Highly recommended!

Edit: 14/7/13

The next book in the Series is out on Amazon :

Storms over Open Fields
Seconded, and thirded too if needed.
This novel is excellent, and I hope it sells well. The author could really use the support since he has been looking for work since January.
There is only one possible problem that I see, and it comes from the fact that the plot revolves around an human stranded in a parallel earth inhabited by feline humanoids. So I will preemptively say: paranoid anti-furries, please spare the hate.
Well he now has one more sale Smile

But I prefer 'The Human Memoirs' to 'Light on Shattered Water', not to say that both aren't great stories.

The following is only IMO:

I feel 'Human Memoirs' was too much Gary Stu SI.

'Light' and it's sequels avoid that trap.

As for furries - these are not sexy or pervy humanoids with fuzzy bodies. They're Aliens. Very much like C.J Cherryh's creations I feel - as opposed to the 'anime' type furry that gets so much negative press nowadays.

I'm looking forward to 'Borderlines' coming out; sci-fi version of the same concept - but it's told from the Alien's POV instead of the human's - so well done!
I haven't read any of these books, but on the subject of furries as serious characters, I would recommend Kit by Fel (aka James Galloway).

It's basically the story of one man who has rebelled against his rich and powerful family and decided to live as an average Joe. His family have a different view and they don't like to take no for an answer. The furry part is that in this world humans, evolved from various non ape mammals such as cats, dogs and foxes. Its is being updated on an ad-hoc basis.

I would also throw in Spirit Walker by the same author (link on the same page) which is a world where normal humans live along side humanoid animals and the story is primary about the (mis)treatment the animals receive. For honesty I will admit I found the book too intense to finish reading but it was a case of a good story on a difficult subject. The web page suggests the story is on going.

The rest of his stories I wouldn't personally class as Furry, but one contains werewolves and another contains various aliens some of whom may again have fur. Therefore anyone on a completely fur free fanfic diet is probably safer looking elsewhere. Everyone else I recommend you should check out the other stories on the page above and the updates and new stories on the sennadar forum.
