First impressions of stuff I've seen so far:
Depending on how it's handled, Gundam 00 could be either a very interesting, authoritative take on why wars happen and their consequences, or an even worse harping on 'War is BAAAAAAD, mmmKay?' than usual for the franchise. Props for good science, though - space elevators feature, and finally a Gundam capital ship with a visible rotational section. Wish they'd made at least one of the pilots a girl, though. Who cares about a bunch of guys, smelly, pretty, gay, straight, or otherwise? Xb Anyway. I'll be staying tuned to see where this goes for at least another few episodes.
Night Wizard is cute and fairly funny, with very likable characters so far. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.
I have some downloads running of the others on Animesuki that look potentially interesting; you'll know more once I do.

"Yes, and it was glorious."
Myself; Yourself is fairly generic harem/dating-sim fare. Guy goes far from home circa 10 or so and comes back 16 and discovers that his friends are now All Grown Up - And How! We don't know much about the foreshadowed winner, yet, and there's at least one girl not introduced in the first episode, but the number two contender is Aoi, a sort of short, chipper combination of Makoto Kino and Yomiko Readman. Needless to say I'm in love. ^_^
Dragonaut's art is rather ugly, and the science is... indifferent, so far... brooding angsty lead, right down to the duck-butt hair... all minuses. Silent Mobius style demonic invasion plot, fanservice, first episode includes Girl Saves Boy, all pluses. Judgement withheld for now.

Blue Drop? Very cool. Lovely art, believable, well drawn primary characters, a very interesting start to the apparently intended romance, and a couple of interesting sci-fi hooks to spice things up. Love it!

Rental Magica: Formulaic tripe of the worst variety. Shonen occult action drama with lame occultism, limp drama with stereotypical characters, weak art, and lame, predictable action with twists you can see coming half an episode and more away. No shortage of shonen, naturally. I was forced to start rewatching Ghost Hunt to exorcise the the sheer, capital-f, Fail.
"You're Under Arrest: Full Throttle" - The girls from Boukoto Station are back, and the scriptwriters know what they're doing. If you liked the other YUA series, you'll probably love this one (although that's based on seeing one episode).

Why? Because the narrator of Gundam 00 is Kasuga Kyosuke himself!
You know, Yamcha. Tuxedo Kamen. Hyoma Hoshi.

Yeah, that guy.

Got the first episode of Night Wizard and the next downloading now, and I agree that it looks pretty good so far. The general creepy-yet-kawaii mixture of atmosphere and art reminds me vaguely of Meitantei Loki Ragnarok, and there's a hint of Nanoha in the weapons and attacks. Any Anime that blends elements from two of my favorites deserves a definite look. (Plus the fact it's related to a table-top RPG hooked me in rather).
Favorite scene: Hiiragi-san, the powerful mage who just wants to be allowed to go to school and graduate to avoid bringing shame to his family, exhausted from a day of being dragged away from his desperate attempts to make it into school by his boss in order to fight Emulators, still trying to drag himself to school even though it's DARK out now, so tired from his day of constant abductions by his boss that he has to use a random tree branch as a walking stick. He pauses a he hears a noise, then shrieks as a UBER-MECHA helicopter drops out of the sky in front of him, blinding him in its searchlights, and his ultra-cute loli-boss Angelot calls out a saccharine-sweet, "you'll accept the task, won't you Hiiragi-saaaaaaaan?" and a rope with a hook drops out the 'copter and grabs him by the collar, his legs windmilling in the air as he tries to get away, poor-put upon manly-man Hiiragi wailing like a little girl to just be let to go to school as he's pulled away into the sky to fight magical evil for the n-th time that day. Poor guy!
Plus the miko mecha-crossbow wielding girl Akabane's accosting of the new girl to join her failing Astronomy club, the new girl Shiho apparently having some ancient magical artifact as a bracelet and being pulled into the Night Wizard world by the spooky shadowy voyeur villain girls, The brief appearance of the Rei-Ayanami-redhead-girl-with-a-frickin-huge-magic-gun that is Akari Himuro.
A good first episode, apparently plentiful source material, good OP and EN songs, creepy background music and atmosphere, plus some Nanoha-esque music (particularly during the next episode preview) and fun characters. One I'm going to follow.
Okay, episode two just finished, thoughts
1) Angelot, and by extension all the wizards want to gather the seven jewels so they can OPEN THE GATE TO THE DEMON WORLD?!?!?! Jeeze, two episodes in and I'm already beginning to think Angelot's some kind of insider for the Demon Lords. I mean granted she said that the Emulator attacks are increasing to the point of becoming unbearable, but I really don't think anything good could come of letting down the doors so they can basically throw a nuke in and run. Didn't they watch Buffy season 5?
2) Poor Hiiragi 'the fallen man', being moved down a year to keep watch over his charge, then despite moving into her mansion, having to sleep in a tent on the balcony! He's definitely one of life's targets.
3) The 'World Saving Team Formation Party'. Snerk.
4) Akabane apparently has a thing for cakes. And things that look like cakes but aren't.
5) Hiiragi sleeps in his school clothes, using his Sword like a teddy bear! Hee!
6) Daddy Long Legs? WTF?
7)Eris has a Grandfather who takes care of her financially and sends her lots of lovely letters, but who she's never actually met, but is going to on her birthday... yeah, I've got a bad feeling about that
8) The sub-space pocket things are cool. I could so use one of those.
9) Return of the helicopter FTW!
10) Angelot's 'please say yes, or okay' line is starting to annoy me
11) Penguins! Yay!
12) So the sub-space pocket things protect against the cold to? I REALLY could use one of those!
13) The Animation's pretty detailed. The frozen city and Angelot's castle in particular.
14) Boobie Minion!
15) Not as much action this time, but a clifhanger that promises far more to come.

So, Episode two just as good as the first, in fact a little better. Will need to see more to fully form opinion, but so far, promising indeed.
Angelot's tagline feels more like a running gag, to me - I like it.
I'll second the subspace-pocket wanting.
Akari is just as cool as she looks, and has perfect aim in more than one way. She ID's the golem's weak point on first sight (not that hard, once you've figured out it's not supposed to be a mummy or something), then delivering a verbal steel-toed boot right to poor Hiiragi's man-feelings with her very first non-business line. Wow!

Subject: My ratings to '07 Autumn shows
Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 00:10:56 +0900
Message-ID:

I've watched every first episode of all shows that I planned
to try. After I spent a sparse anime season this summer,
this autumn looks to be a busy season. There are also several
anime shows that got "near miss", i.e. if they get a litte charm
or quality they would be a better show to watch. This season's
keywords are amnesia and women's power (^_^
Based on the first eposide of every show. Ratings may vary
episode by episode. The number isn't the rank but only a
sequence for convenience.
Indication:
[for k:kids, sConfusedhoujo, g:grown-ups]
(studio/production)
*:fair, **:enjoyable, ***:must see
a:good animation/artwork, d:good drama/story,
h:humorous/hilarious, m:good music, v:violent,
w:heartwarming, +:outstanding (e.g. a+ means
outstanding animation/artwork)
1) Rental Magica (ZEXCS): ***, adhmw
Members of Astral Corp try to exorcize an evil dog spirit.
But Itsuki, the president, is too weak to defeat it. Then Adilicia,
the head of Gatia, appears and exorcizes the spirit. The other
day, Itsuki is asked by Kunugi to find her lost grandfather
who had an obsession for collecting antiques. Itsuki finds that
her grandfather was already dead but employed a forbidden
magic to keep his spirit beside her in order to fulfil her wish for
him staying alive. Finally the magic run out of control and blew
him away. So Itsuki asks her to allow her grandfather's spirit
rest in peace. Good characterization, fluid animation, good
direction, and dramatic and effective use of music are making
this show very entertaining.
2) Shion no Ou - The Flowers of Hard Blood - (Deen): ***, ad+
Seven years ago, when Shion was a kid and playing with shogi
a murderer killed her parents, grubbed her jaw and left her
alive for unknown reason. But she lost her memory and speech.
A shogi professional player Yasuoka takes care of her and
teaches her how to play shogi. Now at the final match of the
women training league of shogi where only the winner is allowed
to be a professional, she is defeated by Ayumi who is actually
a boy. Later, Ayumi happened to see a stalker hugs Shion from
her back. Shion gets extremely frightened remembering the
awful memory of the murder. The story is very complex and
vicious yet intriguing. Much like a psycho thriller than a shonen
spokon anime.
3) Sketchbook (HAL): **, a+h
To find something humorous and/or unusual in daily life of
members of the Art club of a high school. Warm laughs and
beautiful water colored background. Sato Jun'ichi as the
advisor. You can see a statue of Aria-shacho on top of
the building of bowling. The ED song is sung by Makino Yui
who also sang the ED song of "Aria". I like the manga too.
4) Mokke (Madhouse+Tezuka Pro): **, admw
Shizuru is able to see invisible spirits and Mizuki attracts
spirits. Their grandfather takes care of them to teach how
to handle spirits. When Mizuki is collecting autumn plants
for "tsukimi" [moon watching], an evil spirit Mikoshi tries
to possess her. By means of grandfather's advice, however,
Shizuru succeeds to disperse Mikoshi. Beautiful scenery of
traditional Japanese countryside with spiritual nature.
Marvellous sense of wonder.
5) Genshiken2 (Arms): **, adh+
Sasahara is elected to the head of Genshiken and his first
contribution is to have won a booth at ComiFes. He gets
agreement from all members to publish a doujinshi at the
festival. Ogiue is very excited by the decision. But evil
Haraguchi tries to take over their plan and estimates his
own profit. Sasahara stands up for stoppping the evil plan.
Good characterization and excllent voice acting.
6) Blue Drop (B Stack): **, adm
Mari is sent to a dormitory of Kaiou Gakuen because her
grandmother is seriously illed. Mari met an accident five
years ago but she doesn't remember well. When Hagino
shakes Mari's hand, an image of a spaceship suddenly hits
her and pushes her to attack Mari. In the midnight on the
seaside, Mari sees a spaceship floating in front of Hagino.
Poetic imagination in presentation, artwork and lighting.
It also has word play such like Ajisashi (sea bird) vs
Ajisai (purple flower). Yuri flavor.
7) Ghost Hound (Production I.G): **, ad
Eleven years ago, Taro and his sister were kidnapped. Only
Taro survived. Nowadays, Taro drops asleep occasionally.
During his dream (or ghost separation) he sees a same scene
where he and his sister are still kids and bound to a bed in
a dark room. His school gives him psychic counseling for
his unusual dream. One afternoon, Taro meets a girl who is
seeing a ghost reminiscent of Taro's sister. Taro asks her
but she goes away remained silent. Work for Production I.G's
20th anniversary. Shiro Masamune is a co-writer. This show
doesn't look like a sci-fi, but Shiro's exploration of "ghost"
is still continuing.
8) Bamboo Blade (AIC Asta): *, h
One day, the instructor of the Kendo club of a high school
finds a short girl Tamaki showing a great skill of Kendo.
But she doesn't want to join the club. Later, she temporarily
joins the club to stop Hayano from torturing a novice member.
Kurata Hideo (R.O.D, Kamichu!) is the ***** writer.
9) Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (Madhouse): *, h
While Yako wants to solve the enigma of her father's death,
Neuro comes from the demon's world in oder to eat mysteries
to be solved, and Yako becomes his servant as a private
detective. The ED has a sequence of parody of the painting
of de Chirico and Escher.
10) Night Wizard (HAL): *, hm
Angelott often sends Renji to battle fields to fight monsters.
Satan Bell appears and Eri gets possessed by the red moon.
Eri takes a golden ball out of the cherry tree in the campus
and it fuses into Eri's left arm as a bracelet to protect her
from monsters' attack.
11) Suteki Tantei Labyrinth (Deen): *, h
30 years after a big earthquake destroyed Tokyo, "illusion
incidents" are occurring. An informer is providing the police
key aspects to solve the cases. The police finally find that
Mayuki, who looks like a little prince and lives in a mansion,
is the informer. I don't see where the story goes.
12) Juushin Enbu (FLAG): *, am
Keiro comes to Rentsuji in order to take the Sword of Ruler
and defeats most of guards of the temple. Taito stands against
Keiro and pulls out the blade from its sheath. It shocks Keiro
very much because only the real king should be able to draw
the sword. Very lively fighting sequence but the basic plot
looks dj vu of some old Celtic-German and Chinese tales.
13) Moyashimon (ShiroGumi+Telecom): *, dh
Sawaki is able to see and hear many kind of bacilli. In his college
of agriculture, a female student Hasegawa is missing. Sawaki
finds a place that produces a lot of bacilli, smells very badly and
looks like a grave. There is even a plate Hasegawa's name on it.
When the police arrive, Prof. Itsuki has digged a dead seal from
the "grave" and is eating a rotten black bird hidden in its belly.
It's called quiviak, a fermented food of Canadian Innuit. Then,
a witch, Hasegawa, appears out of blue and shouts, "It's mine!".
14) CLANNAD (Kyoto): *, ah
Story about Tomoya and girls around him. Whole tone feels
reminiscent of "Kanon". The ED song feels like of NHK's "Minna
no Uta". The latest work of "AIR"'s team.
15) Shugo Chara (SateLight): *, h
Amu saves a boy who is threatened for money by a group of
bad guys. Her reputaion for mighty savior becomes even
higher. But she wants to be seen as an ordinal girl that is
real herself. So she asks guardian spirits to give her courage
to behave her own self. Next morning, she finds three
Easter eggs on her bed...Feel of a typical "Nakayoshi" manga.
16) Da Capo II (feel.):
Koko tells Yoshiyuki that she loves him. A campus harem
love comedy. Dull.
17) Kaiji (Madhouse):
Kaiji gets on a gambling boat to pay back his large debt.
Very dark.
18) Dragonauts (Gonzo):
Thanatos that is on the orbit of Pluto launches meteorites
to the Earth where monsters are rampant. All about fighting.
19) Myself; Yourself (Doga Kobo):
After five years, Sana returns his home town. Nanaka gets
angry because he can't recognize her.
20) Minamike (Domu): h
It's funny that every one of three sisters of the Minami family
have a cat mouth even though their personalities are very
different. Compare to three sisters of Ranma 1/2.
21) Kimi Kiss (J.C.Staff): h
Mao returns from France and settles in Kouichi's house.
22) Maple Story [k](Madhouse):
A Korean game origin anime. To prohibit monsters from
governing the world, human beings destroyed the World Tree.
23) Prism Arc (Frontline):
Borrowing from Crusade and medieval love stories about
a princess and a knight. I think a main character's name
"Hayaway" is a spell-change of Yahweh.
24) ef (SHAFT): am
Parallel stories of boy-meets-girl in unusual situations.
Good music. Dreamy and beautiful background.
More humor, more interesting characters, please.
25) Shakugan no Shana II (J.C.Staff):
Furiagune attacks Yuji's high school. Yuji realize that he saw this
incident before...Will the story develop drastically?
26) Taiho shichauzo - full throttle - (Deen):
Miyuki saves a boy, Randy, from bad guys who are trying to
kidnapp him in order to take away his grandfather's inheritance.
An old worned out kind of story.
27) Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun (AIC Spirits): h
Poor Ninomiya is always getting sexual harassment by girls
around him. Just silly.
28) Gundam 00 (Sunrise):
In the 24th century, Solastalbeing developped Gundam
to stop any war activities in the world. Nothing new to
be found.

Night Wizard final verdict: WIN. This show manages to combine comedy, action, and a plot that shows signs of being surprisingly non-generic.
...Hiiragi is truly the fates' butt-monkey. Given how absolutely his school uniform matches up to the CoX character generator, I'm tempted to suspect that somebody on the writing or production team has a BS/Inv scrank.

"V, did you do something foolish?"
"Yes, and it was glorious."
Okay, episode 3 thoughts
1) Angelot's boss is a God called Geezer? I can get on board with this!
2) Hint's like Angelot's 'regain the power she once had' and the animation of her with long hair in the opening make me think that Eris's whole life at the orphanage and spooky faceless grandpa are just a cover for some hidden past or something. There's clearly more for us to learn yet.
3) Hiiragi is TRULY the fate's butt-monkey. Did you hear that girly shriek before he feel out of the first trap? That and they way he landed makes me think he got a hit to the love-spuds. Ouch.
4) The 'Thanks for your hard work' when he unintentionally set off all those traps in a row so they don't hit the others was priceless.
5) Did you hear that toilet flushing sound in the traps montage? Hoho!
6) Eris having a feast ready in her sub-space pocket, brilliant.
7) Hiiragi's 'divine punishment' for calling Angelot a old lady. Hee.
8) I love the genuine Role Play feel of the temple. It looks and feels like a something from a legitimate dungeon crawling RPG, not the simple, boring ones from most anime. Plus points for actual puzzle solving being involved. And genuine Boss Music too!
9) Points for the shock ending. looks like next we'll be traveling ON THE MOON! And getting either a new ally or enemy.
10) I flat out LOVE Akari's character design. She looks like a cross between a princess and a Vampire, yet still a teenage high school girl. And although her gunfire is getting repetitive, methinks they'll be new spells and powers in the future to make it interesting.

So my preliminary Night Wizard verdict is like Valles, WIN. This show is made of awesome, has beautiful designs, effects and animation, shows actual intelligence and manages to be both comedic and atmospheric at the same time. I invite you all to check it out now before it gets over-hyped (...any more) or licensed.
I keep liking this show's opening more and more.
Poor, poor Renji. Among other problems, he's obviously not familiar with the lesson of the existence of Cohen the Barbarian.
*blinkblink* Wait, saved the world before?
"That's because I'm like everyone's luggage." SNRK. Never underestimate the relevance of a proper support element, Elis - that old saw about professionals, tactics, and logistics is true.
Andou-san choice at the beginning of it all was wrong... but that said, it's not one I can blame him for, either.

Night Wizard Ep 6-7 Thoughts *SPOILERS *

Ep 6
1)Loved new/old ally the creepy yet cheerful Nightmare. His wacky "DREAMU!"s were hilarious as well. And he's yet another character who the others seem to have previous acquaintance with. ('Coincidence' my ass). Plus it was nice to see someone other then Renji having bad luck for a change.
2) Chibi Elis! Kawai!
3) Chibi Renji! Kawai!
4) Definite Alice In Wonderland theme in Elis's dream-world
5) Creepy nightmarish Abe Lincoln grandpa ruled.
6) The Giant Cake obstacles were surprisingly funny.
And Most Importantly....
That Ending.
Ho.Lee. SH*T! Just when I was beginning to think they were drifting too far into the cute part of the show they give us something genuinely chilling and unnerving like that. What on earth was in Elis's head that could make the DEMON LORD OF NIGHTMARES scream like that!?!?! And whatever it was she saw was enough for magically appearing Kirihito to apparently kill her ruthlessly for having done so. The music, the seiyu's screams, that was just a beautifully done scene.

Ep 7

1)HOLY F*** AKARI MIGHT BE A ROBOT!
2)2) HOLY F*** AKARI SMILED! TWICE!
3)Hiiragi's still living in the tent on the balcony? Harsh!
4)Ferret for the win!
5)Akari's cooking and Renji's utterly heroic removal of it before it could hurt Eris. Never have I had more respect for the Fallen Man.
6)Rather ominous that Angelotte just appeared for tea like that...
7)Okay, so apparently Kureha and Hiiragi were both involved in a previous quest/mission to save the world that succeeded, with Hiiragi in particular being the hero, and Akari was somehow connected as well, and regularly visits a women who's apparently been in a coma for years, who also had something to do with saving the world. I really hope we learn more about this whole thing, the broad hints and subtle revelations are driving me mad.
8)Kirihito's popping up more and more, and becoming more sinister each time. Hands up who thinks he's A something to do with, or B IS Eris's mysterious grandfather?
9)The ending. Oh damn. Looks like the s**t's about to hit the fan.

There's obviously something big coming up. The quest for the jewels could conceivably have been enough for the whole series, and yet not even half-way through and we're nearly done. I have no idea where they're heading with this. Every indication we've had magic-wise says that Eris is both immensely powerful and virtuous, yet there's something so horrific lurking in her head that it terrified a demon-lord. Hiiragi and a great deal of the other Wizards have apparently saved the world more then once, but they're revealing nothing about the how or why. Kirihito is apparently a old ally of the team, yet he's acting so reclusive and manipulative that he appears to be an enemy.
We should know in about three episodes just what's going on...
This has me foaming at the mouth for next few ones. Seven episodes in, and my interest wained for about half a second before they hooked me back in.

Murmur the Fallen

Other than Shion no Ou and You're Under Arrest, haven't really got captured by this season's crop of anime.
But next year, ah next year:

Murmur the Fallen

I wonder if this time we'll have cover versions of Fire Bomber songs like we had Minmei songs in Macross 7 (have the album somewhere . . . ).
And the minute teaser that's up on youtube looks awesome. Some of it reminded me of Flashback 2012, the scene where the Megaroad rises up.
Anyway. Macross.
But back to the subject at hand: Fall 07 Anime.
You're Under Arrest . . . you know, it's doing what it does best and it's doing it well. Which is to say that it's not exactly your high-octane anime, filled with dazzling fight scenes and big ol' explosions.
What I've always liked about YUA is what I liked about Patlabor--the smaller character moments. It's filled with that, and with a gentle sense of humor.
Another gentler show, though with a supernatural tinge, is Mokke. A show about two sisters, one who sees ghosts and one who is possessed by ghosts, live in the Japanese countryside with their grandparents. Beautiful animation, but perhaps a bit too low key for its subject matter of ghosts and what-not.
-Murmur
If Zero had a flaw, it was that there wasn't enough pop songs in it.
Rental Magica - Suffers from a weak first episode, but gets much better as it introduces each of the characters, and there appears to be a solid plotline running through the series (although I've only seen nine episodes so far). Give it another try, Xeno...
You're Under Arrest: Full Throttle - Here's the formulaic one in my bunch - the same formula they've used in YUA since OAV episode 1. But it's a formula I enjoy. (Except for the Miyuki/Ken thing; c'mon, folks, did the end of Season II suddenly not happen, or something?)
Moyashimon - The one I didn't expect to like, but am having fun watching. Mind you, it helps that I remember first-year university fondly... I've seen four episodes so far (out of a planned 11).
And that's it. Edit: Except for the two that haven't finished from summer - Dennou Coil (not finished airing) and Oh! Edo Rocket (not finished being fansubbed). I have to save some time to eat, sleep, work, game, and write, not necessarily in that order...

Night Wizard 8: All of a sudden, I think that Demon Lord Amy got exactly what she was after in the first place.
...or not. But it is interesting that his reflection appeared in the eye that doesn't get the trademark glow.
Night Wizard 9: ...pin pon.
Night Wizard 10: And a return to the theme of ends versus means. Wow I love this show. Kirihito's an idiot for staying quiet this long if he knew all this could happen, though.
Good god, the fallen man is frickin' indestructible!
