Full Version: ADV to market Geneon anime

According to this article, ADV will be handling the marketing, sales, and distribution for Geneon as of October 1.
I suppose that's the end of the "25 Geneon DVDs for $100" sales that Right Stuf has been running occasionally, since I see no way that ADV would let Right Stuf sell DVDs at that big a discount. On the flip side, if "marketing" includes trailers, maybe we'll actually get some for Geneon products (instead of the creditless-openings they use in place of trailers now)...

The deal's fallen through, according to this Anime News Network article.
And the remainder of the article isn't good news for Geneon, either. Unless they start hiring third-party production staff, they're not going to be able to release anything they haven't already started releasing (including Nanoha and Nanoha A's), and a few series might be left in partially-released status (including Black Lagoon and Karin)...
Folks over on Usenet have been worried about an industry shakeout for a while now - it looks like it's finally starting.

Perhaps Geneon should not have started laying people off before the deal was inked.- Grumpy Uncle Gearhead

Perhaps not.
But there's some good news - at the least, Nanoha is being subbed...

I wonder whats going to happen to my Nanoha release with this now happening[Image: faveosig.jpg]
Ah, you beat me to posting the link.
Best guess is either (a) Geneon hires someone else to do the translation, dubbing, mastering, and retail, or (b) Dentsu sells off Geneon's licences as part of winding up the company.
(Outside chance on (c) Geneon comes back or (d) it never gets released. But don't hold your breath.)
I don't have a lot of hope for Geneon's chances, now...

So... what does that part about "management of it's works portfolio" actually mean they would be doing? '.'

Could be... or they could turn into a licensing house. ("How much are we bid for El Hazard? Keep in mind you have to take El Hazard: Alternative World with it.")

There's a couple things here that might be good news.
