A decent movie. Wicked S/FX, so much so I could hardly detect any CGI work. I'm certain it was there, just probably go concealed in the transfer. In all a
decent start to a new Marvel movie franchise with potential links to others.

Spoilers, most of the info is out there now. Still Stark's ubertech ain't transistors anymore (and I think it hasn't for awhile), it's fusion
reactors. room-temp cool, no radshield ones.

To be fair about the CG... they had AWESOME RL Source for the armor. That sort of reference can make it EASY for seamless CG.

Just got back from seeing it (and geeking out about it for another couple of hours afterwards with friends).

No spoilers, but here's what I said to my friends as the end credits finished up.

"Y'know, I know there was a private screening for this movie where Stan Lee was in attendance. And despite his advanced years, if he didn't pop
the most AMAZING boner...

(Does Stan Lee voice) 'Who. Needs. VIAGRA?!?!! I just NEED MORE OF THIS!!!!!!'

Yes, yes. This movie is well worth a viewing. Best superhero movie since Spiderman 2.

The fire extinguisher robot was awesome.

I enjoyed it immensely. Funnier in some parts than I expected. Plenty of action and eye candy.

For the people who have yet to see it, stay past the credits for sequel-ish goodies.

RAndom Factoid, the Boston Globe's movie reviewer Doesn't Get It. [2½ stars out of 5]

Apparently he or she is one of those arthouse snobs who thinks that every movie needs to be heavy on artistic merit.

When every fanboi knows: Comic Book movies need to be true to the source, which aren't Great Literature to start with.

ETA: Verdict. Favorable.

Went to see it this afternoon although I was boneheaded and dashed for the washroom when the credits rolled. If I'd realised there was a snippet at the end
I'd have hung on for that.

It's really very good. Downey, Paltrow and Bridges have excellent chemistry although the brief descent into being batman didn't work for me. Then
again, I'm hardly an expert on Iron Man. Not as impressed with Howard's Rhodey, but he wasn't bad and he didn't get a whole lot of screen time
so there wasn't a whole lot to work with. While it wasn't explicit it was also pretty clear that Iron Man wasn't exactly playing with nonlethal
ammo or the like - which made perfect sense to me. Stark's a weapon designer after all and even if he isn't trying for a deathcount, he still wants
weapons that, per the trailer) only need to be used once

Just got back, excellent movie.

Tons of action, tons of BOOM, some good characterization.

This feels like a really good pilot for a series or sequence of movies.

Just saw the movie myself, I also approve.

Robert Downey Jr really nailed the character.

Just got back from seeing it with Peggy. Oh YEAH.

I was at the comic book store today for free comic book day, and several people didn't bother to stay through the credits - the store owner and I, after
having a good time making him feel like an idiot, let him know what happened. He immediately said that he was going to see it again...

Saw it Friday night - so much better than I was hoping for. Tech was awesome, characters were good enough.

(Completely off topic - if I don't check this forum every other day, I get logged out and have to reset my password. Not liking this new company...)

I liked how they "hung a lampshade" on the whole power generation issue. They didn't really -explain- what it was, but they let you know that
they'd HAD it for years, just not miniaturized to that degree.

I really think that the people responsible for the script dialog should get an award, I've not laughed that hard in quite a while

a teenager?

And yeah, the dialogue was, as far as I am concerned, perfect. Not a false note rang to my ears.

  Actually, it was a re-painted Fanuc -- I've used them, in my opinion KUKAs are better (though since I work for KUKA, I may be biased).

I agree.  They managed to have non-stop funny and serious all interleaving together.
There was one plot point that seemed kind of weak to me, but I think I've figured it out after some thought.

...Seriously! The best movie I have seen in a long time. I ran into some people who said it felt too long and the end boss was too gradually eased into...

...I sure didn't notice.

But did anyone else get Trailers for Speed Racer?

Its funny, I remember Speed racer as being very simple, basic drawings with a scoobie doo feel. Cool gadgets in the car... yeah ok... Cool car and dare devil
races check... but stilll...

OMGZ at the trailer.... were these people watching the same show I was a kid?

They're going to need epileptic fit warnings before letting people into the Cinema!

...Note that is not necessarily a bad thing... Just man.... I hope they're not overdoing it.... (Brothers Wachowski? never )

That said... the movie is definately gonna be made of win and awesome in the sfx/cgi dept. I got visual whiplash for just seing the trailer.... which I think
is kinda the point!

I had trailers for Incredible Hulk and Dark Knight, but not Speed Racer.

Definately a lot of humor mixed in, like the flight attendants on Tony's plane.

After a second rewatching to catch the little bits that a person misses due to the awesome the first time round..

Yeah it is! Which explains the presence of Dummy and Butterfingers and why he still has them around even though Tony has much better tech available to him

(actually wrote something before but with the whole quick reply/reply thing . . .)

Watched this last thursday and I have to admit that I enjoyed it, much like nearly everyone else did.

Now this was not a perfect movie. It terribly underutilized some of the darn fine actors they had. Gwyneth Paltrow in particular was not used to her best,
being relegating to, as one critic put it, a Girl Friday role. And there are some plot holes, such as why did Stane keep a very incriminating piece of
evidence? Why was a CEO making a weapons demonstration? Things like that.

However it was still a darn fine action movie. As someone else put it, it's the anti-Superman Returns (not that I didn't enjoy that movie as well), in
that it's about explosions.

Maybe the reason why it's such a good movie is because it felt no need to hew to the original source. It goes to show that the idea that if the original
source gets in the way of a good story, then jettison it. It's why the movie Godfather is not much like the novel. It's why the new Battlestar
Galactica isn't much like the old one.

Let's look at the original Iron Man stuff: weapons designer Tony Stark steps on a landmine in southeast Asia and gets kidnapped by commies. He builds a
suit of armor that serves as a heart-magnet thing and then goes back to America. He paints his armor gold to make it less scary and continues making weapons.
And so on. Howard Hughes in a suit of armor was what Stan et al. were going for. And you could make a movie about that. But this movie is the better for
letting all of that go.
