Bet the guy's just a con-artist that thought he'd be dead by the time the 'apocalypse' rolled around >.>

- Sweno - 05-24-2011

nah, if he was a con artist, he would come up with a better con.

I believe he is just deluded and desperate to be proven right before he dies.

Came across this article this morning, which adds a somewhat darker dimension to Camping's delusional rantings and the effects they have on the people who believe him: Failed Doomsday Has Real Deadly Consequences.

Quote:A California woman named Lyn Benedetto was one of millions who heard Camping's message, and became concerned that her daughters would suffer terribly in the coming apocalypse. She allegedly forced her daughters, 11 and 14, to lie on a bed and then cut their throats with a box cutter.

Oh good God.

My vocabularly fails to find a word to describe that beyond 'insane'... though I know there is one more suited. That's just.... that's horrifying. Why would anyone do that just because of what some lùdar said?

The usual answer to that question is "mental illness"... but that's a label, not an explanation.

For those not following the link, let me note that all three survived, the girls are recovering in a hospital and the woman is in custody.

How does not wanting her family to suffer lead her to using box cutters on her family!? It sounds like a drawn out and painful death. :S I certainly hope this lady gets the help she needs but i'd never trust her with children again.

For the fourth time, actually, since he apparently predicted the imminent end of the world three times in the 1990s as well as this most recent instance.

They really need to question his income, as well as have him go through a psychological evaluation. He's scamming, or nuts, or both.

This seems an appropriate response:

This guy needs to go to jail for nearly causing world wide panic, people are dieing out their for crazy believes, no man can know when the end of the world will happen, most definitely in christian religions, or they go against the bible, which is anti-productive.

I agree with JFerio, this guy needs to be checked out, and he knows he is lying if he ran away for the first few days after the failed doomsday.

Quote:May 21 had instead been a "spiritual" Judgment Day, which places the entire world under Christ's judgment, he said.

*headdesk*

A lot of people will believe this and happily go along with it. Even worse is that some might start to believe that nothing that they do after the 21st matters.... they're going to hell/heaven anyway

Update - Bob Schroeck - 06-14-2011

Harold Camping has suffered a stroke.  It's a minor one, and he's recovering.

Harold Harold Harold - Rev Dark - 06-14-2011

Harold... Harold... Harold...
We warned you; you are past eighty, your days of a second coming are behind you; but oh no, you just had to try for the rapture; well given how badly the first one turned out.
The sad part is that I do feel sympathy for this arse-hat. A stroke is a terrible thing to happen to anyone.  Of course scaring people into giving money in support of your apocalyptic wank-fantasies is a terrible thing too.
