- Foxboy - 08-29-2009 DF, you can use that to your advantage. Frex, a "smart" villain would CHOOSE Ottawa because it IS in Canada and less likely to have the "perceived" threat of a major US city. As in, a dismissive Yank who buys the "bad press" from Al Yankovic's "Canadian Idiot" Green Day parody. We of the Yank persuasion who read this aren't going to get het up about some idiot American "villain" because, well there are enough "smart" Americans among the forumite authors that we GOTTA let the idiots have their screen time. ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Bob Schroeck - 08-31-2009 Okay, I've been working on the future team of senshi and have come up with a couple "theming" ideas. The first is that (somehow) I'll be naming them after various mecha shows, though precisely how that's going to work out I haven't yet determined. The second is that they're all going to be equipped with some kind of hand weapon -- which means that the tanker will probably have the hammer secondary (since I think that works better for the setting than the axe). Wands and exotic designs are coming to mind for the other three. I also have two questions for the collective: 1) Has anyone other than I realized that Ouroboros has scavengeable med systems? Whoever gets Oro will also have a monopoly on rez tubes. 2) Speaking of Oro, has anyone already claimed first dibs for a character to be the first to get there? I've got a plotline that can lead logically to Eva trying her five porters (well, four, as there's no point in Assembling The Team), but if someone else has plans, I can divert things at this point. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Foxboy - 08-31-2009 I've got Misty "claiming" Ouroboros. Just gotta get my vignette beyond Inari and L-Misty sniping each other in a convo. Lemme get my scene set up so I can introduce y'all to the "VIIOR native" Mender Shiyoko/Shoko. FWIW, Shoko will be friendly enough and perhaps a little off-putting with HOW friendly she is... ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll Senshi (Like Menchi..) - Rev Dark - 08-31-2009 Hey Bob, have considered playing on a variation of Evangelia, playing on the root word (in English) of Evangelism; as a metaphor to a non-religous context. You could then play with existing themes, keeping the handweapons and armoured schoolgirl theme. Eva seems to be primarily focussed on the theme of love, and other chivalric virtues could be worked in - I will be abusing Latin shamelessly. Veneratia (Honor) Forituda (Courage) Equistas (Justice) Ultionis (Revenge) - Okay not a chivalrous virtue, but useful for the bad girl role Callida (Cunning) Armour can be varied by region or time period and themed to the weapon choice. Cheers, Shayne - Bob Schroeck - 09-01-2009 Whoa, Shayne, that's a much better idea than mine. Consider that taken. Quote:but useful for the bad girl roleOh, of course, we have to have the black senshi, the outrider. Maybe I'll play with the idea that since Eva used to be the bad girl, it's the extreme good girl who goes outrider. You know, the Dark Mercury thing. Thanks! -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Norgarth - 09-01-2009 You could also have the outrider be an archer as well, Bob. Another thing to set her apart from the rest of the team. ___________________________ "I've always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific." - George Carlin - Bob Schroeck - 09-02-2009 Hm, yeah, might work nicely -- and be very unlike the usual magical girl. I'm settling on powersets, btw. In addition to Evangelia there will be (so far) Invuln/hammer tanker Storm/Elec defender I haven't decided what to do with the blaster (the outrider will be a second blaster), although I'm awfully tempted to go wildly off-genre and give her dual pistols. And I'm still pondering the controller. I've played controllers least of all, I think, so I have the least experience with designing them. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Foxboy - 09-22-2009 Okay, Nice bit there, Sweno! I think we have a slowdown mainly due to folks waiting on slowpoke li'l ol' me to get caught up? I'll endeavor to get it taken care of. *nod* ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Dragonflight - 09-23-2009 I've got the Sunday "coming out" event the character has to deal with. I'm borrowing heavily from concepts used by Caidin, which work well for a person with a bad self-identity problem. But the real question is how Canadian police and the military react to Supers in Ottawa? I mean, after Shane's very public handling of the Mastermind, and revelations of another super somewhere in the backwoods, it's going to be pretty obvious that Ottawa can't just point at the shenanigans elsewhere in the world and laugh. It's happening there too. The city's very conservative, and has several major national defense institutions headquartered there. Any super attempting to do pro-bono hero work is likely to be having a talk with a strike team from JTF2 or CSIS much faster than they were expecting. And I'm sort of trying to figure out how they'd react. Since you're in charge of those kinds of details, I'm hoping to throw this whole mess of vipers in your lap, Fox, and let you decide that one. ![]() --- Those who fear the darkness have never seen what the light can do. - Ebony - 09-24-2009 If I decide I have the time and creativity to bring Numero Catorce into this little soiree, this is where he'll be. Ebony the Black Dragon http://ebony14.livejournal.com "Good night, and may the Good Lord take a Viking to you." - ECSNorway - 09-30-2009 Hm. I'm now tempted to involve cosplay in the first ninja get-together, after realizing how well our cast fits a certain set of types... Costumes to be delivered by Ninja Delivery Service: Misty: Pinstripe suit, pair of revolvers Sachie: Tights and gi, red hair dye Inari: Elegant violet gown, naginata Misao: Pink and red kimono and hakama, katana All we need is someone who looks good in glasses and a cheongsam... ![]() -- Sucrose Octanitrate. And I realized just how closely several of our 'types' fit certain characters. I know that Misty and Inari meet the rest in Cosplay as Misty from Pokemon and a Glaceon. ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Ankhani - 09-30-2009 Dressing up is quite with in Rina's abilites, and given the (usual) Hanagawa proportions, she'd likely look good in anything. I'm still around, even if I am biding my time on this thread. I'm sadly lacking creativity to come up with a totally separate plot for my characters. --- The Master said: "It is all in vain! At least until you master/use the shape shifting/disguise techniques. Nosy neighbors: Hey, who is THAT going into Ankh's house/apartment/whatever? I've never seen HER before... *dials phone* Hello, 911? I think there's someone breaking into my neighbor's house? From NGE: Nobody Dies, by Gregg Landsman http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5579457/1/NGE_Nobody_Dies - Ankhani - 09-30-2009 Knowing me, I'd definitely put off saying hi to the family as long as I could. It's not likely they'd assume anything happened, as I was/still am not really 'on' CoH. As for friends and nosy neighbors: None (That would notice), and perhaps, respectively. I'll figure something out, probably, though working with the meeting is likely the first thing to happen. --- The Master said: "It is all in vain! So I'm doing it here. ![]() Do you, or have you, practiced any of the martial arts besides swordwork (I seem to recall you teach swords, but the rest I'm unsure on)? Your descriptions make me think Yes, but it could just be a matter of you having a vivid imagination and a well-thumbed library of books, too. At any rate, nice work. --sofaspud --"Listening to your kid is the audio equivalent of a Salvador Dali painting, Spud." --OpMegs - Terrenceknight - 09-30-2009 Yeah Rev, You make really -good- combat scenes, I always love reading them when you post them since I can really get a clear picture of whats goin on by your descriptions so kudo's to that. - ECSNorway - 09-30-2009 So Rina gets her choice of Kohran, Iris, or in extremis Soletta.... Fighting - Rev Dark - 10-01-2009 Hey Sofa., I teach medieval broadsword and kenjutsu. This includes a lot of additional techniques, including locks, strikes, takedowns and pressure point control tactics. I don't teach people to look good while Tarantino has three cameras on them; I work with shortcuts, fast, brutal, techniques and no sense of fair play whatsoever**. While swordplay is my passion (Not in a Boy Stauton sort of way - tenuous Canadian literary reference), I have been knocking about, and getting knocked about in various martial arts all my life. Everything used in that last fight I have taught or demonstrated. Including the tactical option to block fingers and the very ugly take down where you drop someone on their own weapon. Cheers, Shayne ** I don't respect fair play in a real fight - I do respect the force continuum (It is not use the force Luke, it is use the appropriate force Luke) - Sofaspud - 10-01-2009 Ah, yep, that clarifies things for me ![]() I studied karate (shuri-ryu) for several years, plus have picked up a smattering of aikido, judo, and earned myself a permanent discoloration (nasty bruise) from an escrima practitioner when we were sparring and, admittedly, getting stupid. Some of the techniques you portray in text seemed *very* familiar, and not in the "Oh, look, Hollywood got it wrong again" way. Curiousity satisfied, feline still alive. Thanks, Rev. ![]() --sofaspud --"Listening to your kid is the audio equivalent of a Salvador Dali painting, Spud." --OpMegs - Sweno - 10-01-2009 Rev's fight scenes make my fight scenes feel small and inadequate. And now you know why I don't try (much) to write hand-to-hand combat Good job bringing a very visceral flavor to the combat ![]() I look forward to more. -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy |
