Today's Google Logo - Jorlem - 09-07-2010

It's awesome, but does anyone have any idea what exactly it is in honor of?  Or what it's supposed to be, for that matter?

Huh, this

well, it's a Buckyball.

- Jorlem - 09-07-2010

Odd.  That's not the Google logo I'm seeing.
The one I have has the word formed out of a bunch of differently colored balls that bounce all over the screen when the mouse gets near them.

Link/embed then plz!1!

- Jorlem - 09-07-2010

It's just google.com, and I'm not sure how to embed it, as it uses the entire screen and isn't an image file as far as I can tell.  Try going to the classic Google page, if you don't have that enabled.
Here's a youtube link.  I can't seem to get the embed code to work right, so sorry.

it's not an image, it's javascript/html5. Which would explain why you have problems imbedding it.

If you turn off scripting you get a plain google logo.

and I have no clue what it's for.

Didn't they used to have the logo link to whatever it was supposed to be about?

- Bluemage - 09-07-2010

Ironically, my google-fu turned up this.

Apparently, it's supposed to illustrate how they think searching the 'net should be.

Searching the net should make your browser lag?

... (Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass.)

Why does Google hate me? I never get those logos.

apparently, they have everyone guessing... which might be the point. Every time in the past there was a *something* behind it... maybe this time they did it without the something to see what people would dig up?

Maybe it's in honor of this guy?

Also possibly, since there are distinct shades of the same set of colors used there, maybe it's a tribute to the 3D fad going on right now?  Anyone got a pair of 3D glasses to test with?

It's because we're in Canada. Apparently, we aren't good enough to get fancy Google logos.

Well the second footnote on this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckminster_Fullerene shows the reason for the bucky ball.
