Canada - National Day of Fasting on Thursday - robkelk - 10-16-2018

Starting this in Politics because it's about a political statement.

This is one of those things that Canadians like to pretend doesn't exist: racism biased negatively toward aboriginal peoples, leading to hundreds if not thousands of missing and confirmed-murdered native women over the last half-century (if not longer).

On Thursday, we start acknowledging it.

Fast to show that you're at least aware of the problem, even though nobody has yet come up with any sort of plan to stop teenage girls from being raped and murdered with nobody caring simply because of the colour of their skin.

When it comes to bias, knowing you are biased lets you start correcting it.

Having a day of fasting the day after marijuana is legalized seems like they're setting themselves up for failure.

Yeah, I noticed that... but the Day of Fasting was planned before the cannabis legalization date was set.
