More Evangelion Weirdness - Bob Schroeck - 03-24-2020

A page on Honda's website with a running countdown and touting some kind of "CIVIC x Evangelion"... something. Apparently the countdown is supposed to run out on the 31st? And there's some kind of tie-in with the movie coming out in June?

The three videos on the page are odd 6-second things pairing a CIVIC with one of the pilots, and one of the links goes to www.evangelion.co.jp/.

Your guess is as good as mine.

I vaguely recall some kind of themed automobiles being shown off back the first time Evangelion was a big thing. It wouldn't surprise me if it was also renewed to go with the remake movies.

Everytime someone comes up with what they think is a weird piece of EVA merchandise, I remind them that there's a figuring out there of Asuka pissing and shitting on a section'd toilet.

Because Japan.

And now we know.

If you go back to the site now, it's got a neat feature where if you scroll down the page with your mouse or the down key, the page animates.

Somehow, I'm reminded of the story about some kind of corporate sales meeting where one guy led with the old saw about being "the Cadillac of (machine type)," and the other guy admitted that no, they aren't the Cadillac of (machine type), more like a Honda Civic - not as pretty, not as comfortable, but it'll get you from one side to the other and won't cost a lot on the way. Supposedly this won them the contract, but having taken this long to complete the journey for Evangelion when the original series didn't conclude so much as shudder to a sudden inexplicable stop kind of makes the comparison unfavourable, I'd think.
