And after going to the wiki and doing lots of other things, I looked at it, and remembered looking at it on Friday. It's got some of his hallmarks, including markup failures and dropping things in the middle of sections instead of the end.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-24-2022

What's the trope here?

"I Thought It Meant" is a Just for Fun page, not a trope.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 07-24-2022

Some variety of Literal-Minded, perhaps?

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 07-26-2022

Okay, it's that time again -- nominating users for autopatrolled/automoderated:

Bauerbach has a history dating back to 2018, but has become quite prolific in the last nine months or so. He's also been willing to take advice and has been relaxed about mod communications. I think his promotion is long overdue.

And much as I don't really want to <grin>, I think it's time to promote Kuma as well. Their edits are much improved from where they once were even if they aren't as good as we'd like, and of late I have been in the habit of simply hitting "Approve All" for them, because I know their edits these days will at least be acceptable.

Finally, I want to discuss SmileyB. He's been editing since January 2021, but there's evidence he and Mrkelangelo are the same person (M replying to messages on SmileyB's talk page as if he were SmileyB) and he's the guy we had all the drama and "I made a video" over image licenses with sixteen months ago. However, for the past year or so there's been no drama and his edits have been good. I want to poll the other mods on whether he deserves a promotion.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-26-2022

Agreed re Bauerbach.

I'll have to go look at the other two before I can give an informed opinion on them.

Fair enough on the first two. As for the third, if they've noticeably matured, then provisional approval on that as well

I know we don't usually do this for something that's in the Trope Workshop, but I can't see this one not being launched, so... One-Dollar Retainer/Playing With.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 07-26-2022

Nice. Thanks, Rob.

I'll wait a couple days regarding the promotions, to give folks time to look and think and respond further.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 07-27-2022

Well. "Massedit0987" just corrected a minor error in the name of "Monster Girl Quest! Paradox RPG", but didn't change the category and left some 25 or so images on the category, all without a formal proposal of rename. I'm in the process of cleaning up the resulting mess, and I'm dropping him a note about what he did.

I had thought that we'd restricted page moves to the mod team, because of past vandalism, but it appears we actually didn't? I'm proposing that we do so now, simply so that the page rename process we set up actually means something, and so we can short-circuit the well-intentioned but ham-handed.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 07-27-2022

By the way, am I the only one who's been getting lots and lots of pink Flow\Exception\NoParserException errors when trying to post comments on talk pages in the last 24 hours?

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-27-2022

I think I got one of those yesterday. Definitely not multiple.

Found it - we had removed the "move" rights from Users, but not from Confirmed Users or Autoconfirmed Users (two different groups). That's fixed now.

Yes, I double-checked that Administrators explicitly have "move" rights.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-27-2022

While I was in the system, I gave admins the right to set or clear the "forum moderator" and "chat moderator" bits, and took away from everybody the ability to overwrite files on Commons.

Sounds great. Thanks, Rob.

It's been a couple of days. I'm going to go ahead with Bauerbach and Kuma... I'm still uncertain about SmileyB.

Guys, we may need to watch HornyLikeIAmA14YearOldGirl -- their edits have suddenly started to get ranty/political, particularly on the pages for Reddit. See here, here and here. I also received a board-to-board message from a user (whom I will not name in public) about a rant they received in private messaging from another user they didn't name (and who they thought was a mod), but whose language has a similar hate-on for Reddit:
Quote:"It is a Reddit users favourite. The majority of Reddit users hates catholics for not supporting gay marriage, is trying to de-legitimise pro-life movements by calling them "forced birth", and hates capitalism. In fact, the chance of you being eventually banned for disagreeing on those topics with the majority of the site is nearly certain, so you can not even engage in dialogue with those people and they want to make no compromises. So I will not spread what they call "their" culture under any circumstances. Nonethless <name snipped>, the name of the trope is already perfect, my personal bias hardly matters here, I just do not want it to be renamed for some show militant anti-catholic socialists atheists like more than everything which aired on american television on the 2010s on top of changing it."

Please take a look at the linked edits; I am inclined to roll them back, but I want other opinions first.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-29-2022

I am so tempted to add a sub-bullet to the first one saying "Of course, anything that 4chan hates has to have something good going for it.", and see how long it takes before somebody tries shouting me down and I have to officially point out ATT:1WAY to them.

But then somebody would claim "entrapment".

After reading Wikipedia's page about Reddit, I believe that these are slanted and biased, and belong on the YMMV subpage if they belong anywhere on ATT.

EDIT: I have linked that page quote to an appropriate page, though.

They really need to chill. Even if the general thrust of their accusations is true, they could stand to link actual evidence and be far more disspassionate than they are.

The way I see it, they need formally warned to do the above stated, and if they explicitly refuse to do so, then given a cool off tempban for however long is required to make them reconsider. They have proven a good editor, so I would hope this is just a temporary fit of pique they will overcome.

<nod> I just added my own brief note to that thread. Meanwhile the user who contacted me has confirmed that it was Horny who sent them that rant.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-29-2022

Wiki's down since ~3pm ET. ATT and TNB.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - robkelk - 07-29-2022

Wiki's back.

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 08-03-2022

Wiki's been barfing 503s all morning, when it's not throwing simple black-and-white pages that say "wiki is unavailable".

Meanwhile, re-raising the subject of promoting SmileyB. Has the past week given folks a chance to look into them and form an opinion?

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXV - Bob Schroeck - 08-03-2022

We have a new trope candidate waiting in the moderation queue, "Heroic Dimples" submitted by new user VinnieTheBaggySweater. A quick Googling reveals that it appears to have been a rejected trope candidate from TVT, but in order to see it, you need a TVT account. Geth, you've got an account, right? Could you please check the page in the mod queue against whatever TVT has? Thanks.

And if they're identical, we need to decide if that still counts as copyright infringement. I'm guessing yes, if VinnieTheBaggySweater isn't the one who originally proposed it at TVT.

There's a Phabricator ticket regarding the now-hourly 503s: https://phabricator.miraheze.org/T9581
