Concordance comment - robkelk - 01-12-2013 I was going through the DW V Concordance and noticed the sentence "The lingonberry is a sweet-tart reddish fruit somewhat reminiscient of cranberries." This is not a big surprise - ligonberries are classified biologically as Order Ericales, Family Ericaceae, Genus Vaccinium, Subgenus Vitis-idaea, while cranberries are classified biologically as Order Ericales, Family Ericaceae, Genus Vaccinium, Subgenus Oxycoccus... They aren't very different. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Proginoskes - 01-15-2013 Well, huckleberries and blueberries are also Vaccinium species. And plums, peaches, apricots, and cherries are all Prunus. Congeners don't necessarily taste similar. |
