I'm back... - Bob Schroeck - 06-06-2026 ... or rather, I should say that I have solved the system issues which have plagued me for far too long, and I can finally return to playing COH without my system spontaneously restarting at inopportune times. Now I just have to deal with the fact that my 64-year-old hands are a bit stiffer than they were when last I was playing regularly. I have some new characters I created for My Apartment Manager Is Not an Isekai Character (long story, which we haven't even started to write, and no, it's not about displacees from Paragon), so I figure I will use them to get my fingers back into fighting trim before I attempt any large scale group activity with the gang. Speaking of which, thank you to whoever kept reupping Evangelia's big boss bit over the past nearly two years. You honestly didn't have to do that, and I would have gladly taken whatever demotion my inactivity left me with. RE: I'm back... - Drenivian - 06-07-2026 I think Terr kept putting you as the Leader. He does log in more than most of us (to our Legendary Toons that is). BTW they did do some changes to Broadsword in the last Issue so Eva may play differently. You got questions, just poke us, here or on the SNT Discord Spud put together Ahh, I28, Page 3, Panel 2 update is where the Broadsword stuff happened (I forgot to make a post here about Page 3 and Panel 2. Oops) RE: I'm back... - Matrix Dragon - 06-14-2026 (06-07-2026, 04:03 AM)Drenivian Wrote: I think Terr kept putting you as the Leader. RE: I'm back... - Bob Schroeck - 06-14-2026 BR? Not sure who you mean, so the answer is probably "no". RE: I'm back... - Drenivian - 06-14-2026 Well, if the ol hand is feeling good on a Friday, come along on the Weekly TF. BR is usually there. Bushranger came to the game via the Casa De Spud crew, and fell in love with it pretty much the moment he had access to it. That said, I think he's never actually made an account here, so in game and discord would be the only places you could be introduced to him. RE: I'm back... - Bob Schroeck - 06-15-2026 It's weird how my days have gotten busier and more complicated in the two months since I retired. I will do my damnedest to get back into the Friday night swing. RE: I'm back... - Bob Schroeck - 08-28-2026 Well. It's been just about three months since I replaced my video card and became game-capable again. And I'm sure people are wondering why they haven't seen me in COX since then. It's because I got myself addicted to Skyrim (which I used as my test case when diagnosing and fixing my system -- it would spontaneously reboot my PC when it started playing its theme music at startup). I've been playing a stealth archer with great enjoyment -- and it's basically eaten all my free time (of which I still have far less than I expected). One unexpected side-effect of this -- I so enjoy Skyrim's archery (and its CSI-style killshots) that I doubt that COX's archery will ever appeal to me. RE: I'm back... - Drenivian - 08-31-2026 Skyrim arrives, it does not matter when or where you are... it arrives all the same. Like Wizards but with more Fus Ro Dah. I also quite enjoy Skyrim archery. Clear your gaming urges, Bob. CoX and all of us will be here when you are ready (and if everyone else has their way I'll have a Tanker Shizuru with the new Sonic Armor currently on beta) RE: I'm back... - Bob Schroeck - 09-01-2026 So, my character is now level 50, and I completed the big Dawnguard quest and took down Harkon. Serana and I get along fine; she's my current (and hopefully only) companion, and I've crafted her a very nice set of enchanted glass armor and sword, as well as given her the Staff of Sanguine Rose (and charged soul gems to keep it all going). Meanwhile, I've got my own enchanted glass armor (all named "Lord Corning's This or That" for the glass joke), I've upgraded an enhanced dwarven bow and enchanted it, likewise improved and enchanted a Skyforge steel sword out the wazoo, and I have Sneaking 100 and Archery 94. I've adopted two girls, who are living at Lakeview Manor, and for whom I've made legendary-grade wooden swords with some powerful enchantments of their own. While building up to this point, I've been consulting with ChatGPT about what enchantments to actually use and what kind of loadouts Serana and I should be carrying. When updating it most recently, it had this observation based on what I've crafted and the playstyle I've been following: Quote:So the division of labor is becoming rather clear: I found that a very amusing observation. Earlier, it had this to say about one of my character's daughters: Quote:Lucia, armed with a Legendary 300-damage wooden sword, is no longer a child carrying a toy. She is a small, heavily armed natural disaster who happens to have homework. (Said 300-point damage coming from a combination of Smithing 100 plus a few Fortify Smithing items that aren't the result of an Alchemy/Enchantment loop, as well as a fairly powerful Fortify Smithing potion.) RE: I'm back... - Mamorien - 09-02-2026 ChatGPT, lacking consciousness, presumably doesn't have a sense of humor, but it appears you've helped it develop a sense of the ridiculous at least as fine as that professed by Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. RE: I'm back... - Bob Schroeck - 09-02-2026 It seems to never pass up an opportunity to encourage the ridiculousness. For instance, I was querying it today about switching my focus to excessive Fortify Health enchantments once I learned that no matter how abusive the armor I create, I'm still taking 20% of any damage inflicted on me. It concluded: Quote:So for your stealth archer, once the armor cap is secured, the sensible hierarchy becomes something like: I'm not sure where it got the idea I want absurd names for my enchanted items. The couple times I asked it for suggestions I was perfectly serious. It's the ones I named on my own that are absurd. And I certainly don't need to improve my offensive abilities. Not much, anyway -- like I said, 94 Archery plus a crossbow that makes the girls' 300-damage wooden swords look proportionally weak, using dwarven bolts. And I've gotten really good at the half-mile snipe. Which is a big change from the first ten or twelve hours I was playing, when I simply could not hit anything with a bow to save my life. Thankfully a few trainers (including Angi on the mountain) and several skill books -- plus a friend pointing out what I was doing wrong (my real-world archery experience does not apply in Skyrim) -- got me over the hump. RE: I'm back... - Drenivian - 09-03-2026 At least you did not go the easy route and abuse the Enchanting table. |
