Live Action Evangelion... - Dartz - 02-07-2015

Nothing quite gets across both the sheer scale, intensity and creepy wrongness of a full-scale realistice Evangelion Unit, than full-detail CGI animation.

Meeting one of these in person, would be the dictionary definition of awesome.

It'd be the dictionary definition of scary in my eyes.

For people like me who couldn't get the video to run on that page, it's on YouTube:

Oooh, and this one has subtitles.

The original link didn't.

- Black Aeronaut - 02-09-2015

Is this just a short, or is it the preview for a coming movie?

- Bob Schroeck - 02-09-2015

I wish I could tell... The quality makes it look like a trailer, but there's no indication anywhere that I can find that the film project is live again. (Unless, of course, that's what the original page is announcing in Japanese.) I'm inclined toward a skilled and perfectionist fan.

On the YT embed: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by [kabushiki kaisha Dwango]." Sad

Go to the original site, and click on "EN" in the upper-right corner...

It's a one-off, unfortunately. The LAME project died with ADV.

And that looks more ike Old Tokyo, at least, after having a few dozen large bombs dropped on it. The bridge sort of gives it away.

Those of you who can make the video play there, at least.

It's the 12th and latest installment in Khara's Animator Expo. They've been posting shorts weekly for a few months now (30 are planned), all with different directors. These include:

The Dragon Dentist: A girl undergoes training to be a dentist for dragons.
Hill Climb Girl: Sports! Cycling! Rivalry! Adolescence! 3D animation! A tiny bit of romance!
ME!ME!ME!: Probably the one that's gotten the most publicity so far, this is a strange, surreal, extremely NSFW, and very disturbing music video that has spawned several interpretations. The main character seems to have had a bad breakup and may be struggling with a porn addiction. Note that the end loops back to the beginning.
Carnage: One-armed gunslinger lady seeks revenge.
Collection of Key Animation Films: Something I haven't seen, apparently involving the real-life history of Gundam.
20min Walk From Nishi-Ogikubo Station, 2 Bedrooms, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, 2mos Deposit, No Pets Allowed: Woman takes nap in her apartment, awakens to find herself in a pickle, tries to get her boyfriend/husband's attention.
until you come to me: More Eva! This might take place after 3.0.
Tomorrow from there: Music video featuring a waitress.
Gridman: Boys Invent Great Hero: Based on the 1993 tokusatsu series that was adapted into Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad in the fashion of Power Rangers.
Yamadeloid: Weird samurai music video.
Power Plant No.33: The problem with powering your city with a trapped kaiju's life force. From Yasuhiro Yoshiura of "Time of Eve" and "Patema Inverted" fame.
Evangelion:Another Impact: This one, from Shinji Aramaki of Megazone 23 and Appleseed fame.

Most of them are voice-acted by Megumi Hayashibara (who needs no introduction) and Kouichi Yamadera (Fargo, Spike Spiegel, Togusa, Kaji, Ryoga). More details on this one here, along with the names of the creators of the other shorts. And here's the index page, which has some credits too.

Man, most people would have retired by now (especially so in the flavor-of-the-week pop music culture of Japan), but Hayashibara-san keeps right at it. You gotta admire her.

- Bob Schroeck - 02-11-2015

Like they say, she's the hardest-working woman in Japanese show business.

Honestly, I don't think I would say that. Not nowadays.
I mean, yeah, she's still getting parts. But the voice actresses for Misa Hayase and Lum are still getting the occasional job too, even though they were never as big as she was in the '90s.

How many roles has Hayashibara gotten in the past few years, compared to Mamiko Noto or Miyuki Sawashiro or especially Kana Hanazawa? True, her resume's bigger (though it seems Noto's caught up), but she's been in the business a lot longer. Can you truly say she works harder, right now, than HanaKana? She's still in the game, but her most prolific years are well behind her.

Okay, okay, I'm still stuck in the 80s and 90s.

I think it's safe to say that Hayashibara-san is the most legendary of voice actresses. She certainly sets a high bar to clear, and she shows no signs of stopping anytime real soon.
