Song of the Day, 8 September 2005 - Bob Schroeck - 09-08-2005

For she who steps on the way of the sword
The path gets harder at every turn
Sanctuary shell find no more
Among the people of her lot
She will leave the past behind
The Goddess knows what she is to find
Past is left behind
For the one on the way of the sword
Fools are meant to fall
Theyll get lost along the way
Past is left behind
For the one on the way of the sword
Fools are meant to fall
I am she whos on the way of the sword
For she who knows not the way she must walk
Life is sweet but with little reward
She who wields a sword
Must be prepared to shed her blood
Pain she must endure
And know too well that she must be strong

Past is left behind
For the one on the way of the sword
Fools are meant to fall
Theyll get lost along the way
Past is left behind
For the one on the way of the sword
Fools are meant to fall
I am she whos on the way of the sword
So many farewells
Many tears you must shed before your journey ends
Or its only just begun
For a glory wish there is much to sacrifice
So many farewells
Many tears you must shed before your journey ends
Or its only just begun
For a glory wish there is much to sacrifice
Past is left behind
For the one on the way of the sword
Fools are meant to fall
Theyll get lost along the way
Past is left behind
For the one on the way of the sword
Fools are meant to fall
I am she whos on the way of the sword

I just did a search at animemusicvideos.org - seven AMVs use this song, but none of them use Noir for footage... Hmmmmm...

Wow, this list was longer than I expected... - HoagieOfDoom - 09-09-2005

Sweet, power metal! I love this genre!
If you all like this, check out (these are all AMV.org links)
Rhapsody: The Emerald Sword, Dark Tower of the Abyss, Dawn of Victory, Power of the Dragonflame, The Knightrider of Doom.
Sonata Arctica: The Cage, Replica (highly recommended!)
Stratovarius: Destiny, The Abyss of Your Eyes
Blind Guardian: Nightfall, Another Holy War, Punishment Divine, Harvest of Sorrow
Angra: Heroes of Sand, Nova Era
Demons & Wizards: Fiddler on the Green (highly recommended!), Heaven Denies
Kamelot: Forever, On the Coldest Winter Night, Wander, III Ways to Epica
Mago de Oz: Fiesta Pagana
That's all I can think of for now. Oh, if anyone gets interested, there is normally an umlaut over the 'a' in Mago de Oz, but I don't know the key command for it.*********
There's no need to hear, I can shout you.

Ah, lots of downloads to make. And I'm behind on viewing/listening to the ones I've done already...

I think that was me.
I also recall someone saying, "oh, typical euro fantasy metal".Brazil has decided you're cute.Brazil has decided you're cute.

You know, that phrase just refuses to gel in my mind. "Typical euro fantasy metal." ...nope. Just the suggestion that there's engouh of it to be "typical" is a boggle.

Re: Wow, this list was longer than I expected... - HoagieOfDoom - 09-14-2005

People call it typical because there are a lot of bands that follow fall within and around that label. Rhapsody probably gets the most flack, since their lyrics sound like they came straight out of a fantasy novel. (Which isn't far from the truth; except for their last effort, all their albums are part of a massive fantasy epic created by guitarist Luca Turilli)
Enough bands go their on way though to add diversity. People were calling Sonata Arctica a clone of Stratovarius for a while until Silence, I think. But everyone does it their own way; Rhapsody is Epic Hollywood Metal (so they call themselves, and it fits!); Blind Guardian is speed/power metal, though their last album is as symphonic as it is metal; Kamelot is progressive/speed/power metal; Mago de Oz is Spanish folk metal with some power mixed in.
In short, anyone who calls it "typical" should really listen to some more before judging.

I'll have to check out those links. I can provide a recommendation for Kamelot right away, though -- I'm quite fond of them.

...and longer, and longer, and longer... - HoagieOfDoom - 09-14-2005

No way! Another Kamelot fan?! It's rare finding a fan of them. (At least where I've lived)
Edit: What the heck, may as well list some (more) recommendations. (other than what's listed in my first post here)
Therion (Symphonic Opera Metal fusion)
Skyclad (Folk Metal)
Apocalyptica (Cello Metal)
Adagio (Neo-Classical/Prog/Power)
Evergrey (Heavy Progressive Metal)
Pagan's Mind (Prog/Power Metal)
Secret Sphere (Symphonic Power Metal Romanticism)
Symphony X (Prog Metal)
Edenbridge* (Operatic Prog/Power Metal)
Within Temptation (Gothic Opera Metal)
And others that don't appear in the links
Wuthering Heights (Progressive Neo-Classical Folk Metal)
Angra (Progressive Power Metal)
Helloween** (Power)
Iced Earth (Power)
Star One (Prog/Power/Sci-Fi)
Pyramaze (Epic Power)
Stream of Passion*** (Prog/Power/Gothic)
Virgin Steele (Barbaric Romantic Metal Opera)
* Think Nightwish, but note exactly like them. Different enough to stand on their own.
**Wrong thread, but I've been wondering about a power for Heavy Metal Hamsters.
*** Not yet released, but the samples sound great.*********

Re: ...and longer, and longer, and longer... - HoagieOfDoom - 09-15-2005

Sounds familiar, but can't say I've heard stuff by them.
Edit: Very cool. The samples on Doro's site sound awesome. She reminds me a bit of Geddy Lee, particularly on the samples from the first Warlock album. I'll have to see if I can pick them up.*********

Re: ...and longer, and longer, and longer... - ECSNorway - 09-15-2005

Yeah. Been a fan since my old college roommate had an LP of 'Triumph and Agony'. It's been one of my favorite albums to-drive-to for years now. So far I only have that and Hellbound, though... I used to have a tape duped off his copy of Helloween's 'Keeper of the 7 Keys', but it got lost when I moved a few years ago. Hrm.
And I need more Iced Earth. Wow.

How about Baked Alaska? - HoagieOfDoom - 09-15-2005

Can never get enough Iced Earth. Their last album, The Glorious Burden, is a pretty good until the last three songs.
Then it gets downright awesome. The Gettysburg Trilogy Jon Schaffer wrote is incredible, worth the price of the entire album.
I need to get the tribute album (the cover of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is amazing) and the Alive in Athens special edition live album. Those and the one based on Spawn.
If you like Iced Earth, have you listened to Demons & Wizards? It's a collaboration between Jon Schaffer and Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian, with Hansi handling vocals and Jon handling guitars and basses (I can't remember who the drummer was). Their first album is one of my favorites among my large metal collection and their second is just as good, though it doesn't quite have the same impact as the first. There are some AMV.org links up at the top of this thread. And if you like D&W, go on to Blind Guardian. You won't regret it.
