[Art!] Stellvia... COMPLETE~! - M Fnord - 08-16-2009

After nine consecutive days and way too many hours slaving over a hot monitor, I give you....

*dramatic tympani*

...direct from the construction yards at Recton Prime...

*more dramatic tympani*

...the star of stage, screen and fanfic...

*still more dramatic tympani*

the one, the only

Okay... so remember how I said there'd be more pics? Well, I lied. Kinda.

It turns out that Stellvia, at almost a million polys, is right at the wall where I get "insufficient computer" errors if I try to do anything halfway complex with the thing. This isn't a permanent thing by any means but it *does* mean there won't be a lot of pretty pictures forthcoming any time soon. Here's the last picture I managed to coax out before giving up:

Whoa. Both of those are beautiful, Fnord. I'm going to be using the blueprint one as wallpaper, I assure you...

Speaking of wallpapers, I managed to torture Sketchup into giving up a single vector image (80 minutes to export to PDF. That shit ain't right) so I've
got another picture in the works. But, it comes with a need for information.

Rob: Who were the on-shift Stellvia officers when the Girls appeared on station? I don't need full character bios or anything, just the names. Thx in
advance.

It was just before noon, so the "day shift" would have been on. That puts Noah, Yoriko, Jake Hansen (first-shift Duty Officer), Patty O'Neill (first-shift ATC officer), and two as-yet-unnamed ATC controllers in Main Operations. Sora and Kohran were on the engineering deck, and Yayoi was... y'know, I don't know where Yayoi was at the time. But she was somewhere on the station, since she wasn't caught outside when Noh panicked and Stellvia went dark...

Oh, that's very cool, Fnord. Yes, indeed, more wallpaper.

And I've yet to start reading, Rob. Maybe by noon... but I can't access my email at work (stupid SEC regulations), so comments will have to wait at least until I get home at 5 PM EDT.

Very cool indeed. Does that DQS-event strength reading actually say "4500 milli-heinleins"? Smile

Yes. Yes, it does.

Don't ask me how Kohran calibrated the sensor, though...

I understand completely. (In my case, they're Deputy Minister Directives rather than SEC regulations, but they give the same result.)

I can tell you that it looks good -- and I only spotted one grammar glitch in the narrative voice that I can recall. (I don't count grammar glitches in
dialogue any more, unless they're really awful, since that's the way most people talk.)

This is a bit of an odd duck, but it's something I thought of randomly while working on the main model:

Chalwa Station was originally planned to be Stellvia's Concourse D, but a downturn in the Lagrange housing market shelved that plan when the ring was nearly complete. To offset losses, Stellvia transferred the concourse to the Artemis Foundation, had a new hub thrown together from handy components and tossed the new station into orbit in the Main Belt.

- robkelk - 08-20-2009

Hmmmmm...

The design doesn't seem to me to lend itself to a research facility, which is what Chalwa Station is.

However, it's perfect for the occasionally-hinted-at Oddessy Station that Noah plans to put into Martian orbit in 2015.

...Why am I reminded of the EPCOT Center in Disney World?

- M Fnord - 08-21-2009

Probably because it *is* the Epcot Centre.

Ah. One more thing for the investors to get flustered over. (^_^)

- Bob Schroeck - 08-21-2009

Strictly speaking, it is not EPCOT. However, both the station and EPCOT have a geodesic sphere at their centers, and the ignorant who are unaware that you cannot copyright or trademark a geodesic sphere would no doubt believe there is some kind of infringement going on.

Yep - if the suits on Disney's World complain to Noah, he'll just point them at Silent Running as an example of prior art, then tell them to go away.

hmm. Might have to post that puppy up via megashare, though I understand that yahoo had no size limits on attachments. Then again?

but yes, I can give it a try at least. I've had a lot of experiance at making good looking models for as few polys as possible over the last 2 years as the
most prolific of the modelrs for the Theme park Builder 3D Project

lets at least try sending it to star underscore ranger4 at yahoo
