I suspect Moondance is based on this tech...

Rob, that moon pizzeria is fantastically & properly cheesy! Somebody is going to eventually say : "That's one small Pepperoni [and cheese] for [a] man, one giant bill for Mankind!" There is no way that we will not take our tacky commercial nonsense into space. The Golden Arches Europa will happily welcome The Monolith as their One-Millionth  customer!

Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode.

Not Europa. All these worlds are ours except Europa...

Gotta love the temporary street sign

More information about that trip - be sure to read all the way to the end for an Easter-Egg.

Next jump from the edge of space (100km), then from the ISS? Wink

A Red Bull fueled space program means that we'll get to Mars to race Mars Rovers and sand-surf Olympus Mons. "You maniacs, you marketed it  Ah, damn you! God damn you all to Madison Avenue!"  (With apologies to the specters,  R. Serling & M. Wilson.)

What? It's there but we can't use it? This sounds like a job for handwavium!

A bit of hunting turned up the source for the image on that page: %[link=http://kepler.nasa.gov/multimedia/artwork/artistsconcepts/]http://kepler.nasa.gov/multimedia/artwo ... sconcepts/]

We could probably use some of those on the FenWiki ... (bookmarks 10 likely images)

Oh, look - "3D Models" (follows link, looks at page) Anybody got a copy of Maya?

Forget about four suns... - Bob Schroeck - 10-17-2012

How about a planet-sized diamond?
If
you thought de Boers were crapping their pants over the Crystal Cities,
imagine what they'd do to prevent an expedition to that world.

Alpha Centauri has a planet

Only 4 light years away...... it might actually be possible to Orion a probe there inside a century.

I am a firm believer in that green policies, mother nature and the wonders of our animal brothers have their place in modern society (this place is far, far away from me, my car, my indoor pluming with hot water, my electricity and my internet connection)
Since fen aren't exactly models of sanity and restraint, I am sure that those cities are being either built or planned to be built once the terraformation gets more advanced.
In fact, I'll go and state that Genesis is already building somewhere in Mars the "urbacanyon" city, though completion is not planned until 2025 or 2030.

Why don't we have more insane architects instead of the usual primadonnas???'

It may be a good thing that this is happening now - the Trekkies are too busy fighting the Boskone War to buy the hull.

It looks like there's another requirement for planetary system creation, at least if we want life-bearing worlds. (Although I seem to recall an essay by either Asimov or Clarke that made the same point decades ago...)

Well, it'll take a few years to cut the reactors out..... then the hulk gets sold off to the highest bidder and towed to where they want it. With a little handwavium, anything is possible...... though probably well into the 2020's before it even gets close to takeoff.

Those big internal spaces would be awful handy for colonists wanting to move a *lot* of things..... the ability to take-off and land from water would be a real plus... and the flight deck would be useful for launching and recovering shuttlecraft.

What would be the life of a Mad without a few good explosions per week?
