FenWiki: new tool - robkelk - 02-21-2012

Since HRogge noticed inconsistencies on a couple of pages, and identified them in a way that didn't match the way I identified pages with inconsistencies... I've created a new tag to put at the top of pages that have problems.

Add {{Cleanup}} to the very top of a page, and not only will http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... te:Cleanup]a nice, big, somewhat-boring notice be added to the page, it will also be listed http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... of_cleanup]in a centralized location. It would be polite to say why you added the Cleanup tag to a page, too.

(The boring nature of the notice is intentional, by the way - that encourages people to do something to warrant removing it.)

Note that I didn't actually fix the problems, I just highlighted them...

Good idea... what do you think about a copying the comments I made in the discussion pages here into the forum thread, so we can talk about them without putting it into the wiki history. I have been doing a "random jump" on the wiki the last weekend and wasn't sure where to ask about the inconsistencies I found.

Because without a comment, the {{Cleanup}} label is not that useful.

That's a good idea. We could even use this thread for it...

Okay, here are the two pages I noticed that needed some cleanup:

http://fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Moondance
Quote:The Dancer's current form is a metallic sphere about a hundred meters across
Length 65m (sphere)
Does anyone know how large this thing really is?

Quote:Mass ~163,000gt
163000 gigatons ???

http://fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Fl ... _Air_Force
Quote:(most famously flown from the steeple of the Church of the White Martyrs after the capture of Asteroid 1488)
The The_Main_Belt document identifies 1488 Aura as misidentified as the home base of the Suns of Turner. Maybe the comment should refer to 1186 Turnera ?

- robkelk - 02-23-2012

Most of the pages I tagged are just dumps of Wikipedia and/or SolStation articles. The others, I mentioned the problems on the pages.

I am really not sure what to do with the Moondance. 65 meter diameter sphere might be a sane solution, but even if we reduce the mass to 163000 tons, it has 60% more mass than a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. No way in hell it has already earned its cost back with moving freight.

And the ship's creator is no longer active in Fenspace, so can't offer any guidance here...

Let me ponder this one for a few days.

Both of you are seriously overthinking two typos.

So, consider the Moondance article fixed.

Just did not wanted to step on someone toes I didn't know... I am okay with the fix. Smile

The pages in need of cleanup list is now reduced by one... "Disturbing Implications..." has been cleaned up (formatting and typos)

I just tagged the Galactic Republic page, because the page is in point-form instead of paragraph-form (excepting the introduction). This falls under "the page just needs a good editor to get it into shape."

Just added Mimas to the list - it's another page in point-form. (It's also a stub.)

And Serenity Valley - the "Geography" section needs work.

And another fifty-one different Interstellar pages, because they're SolStation/wikipedia data-dumps; if they're tagged but not listed here, assume that's why.
