The State of Trump's State Department - DHBirr - 03-02-2017

Article in The Atlantic.
For me, the most disturbing line was in the final paragraph:
Quote:“This is probably what it felt like to be a British foreign service officer after World War II, when you realize, no, the sun actually does set on your empire,” said the mid-level officer. “America is over. And being part of that, when it’s happening for no reason, is traumatic.”
"America is over."  That, at least, is the impression the current situation in his office gives this fellow.

Oh, shit.

What I suspect is that the only tool is a hammer, you start looking for nails to hammer. Trump wants a short glorious war. He'll find out that's not the case nowadays.

Has there been a war that was both short and glorious in the last century? (Possibly the Six Days War, depending on your definition of "glorious", but the USA wasn't involved in that.)

them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of
the same sovereign, servants of the same law."

The Falkland's war?

6 Day War? - That victory turned into Israel's bane IMO.
Criteria- Clear cut victory in less than a month with no downside to the victor
Candidates  - Panama and Grenada

The Falkland's war?
Bone of contention (who owns the islands?) has not been resolved.

Yes. It has. The choice of 99.8% of the population (and a more powerful military) trumps wishful thinking.

Heck, the Argentines refuse to take back their dead. So until the problem (sovereignty) is resolved, the UK still has to base a force on the island.
