Re: Countdown... - Ebony - 01-22-2003

You know, you're not helping me deal with the fact that I have 10,000 words due to my line editor for an Earthdawn supplement due on the 31st. The missing of said deadline, for the record, is not my fault. Life has conspired against me this month (someone set my car on FIRE!).

Sorry, Ebony, but I think I have you beat by an order of magnitude... This is just one of my ways of blowing off the stress.

On fire? Jesus Harold Christ. How did... no, never mind. I don't think I want to know.
Here's hoping your insurance company is nice to you...

Drunk parked next to me, passed out with his foot on accelerator. Engine got too hot and caught his car on fire. Thusly, mine was caught on fire as well. Poor dumb idiot died of smoke inhalation in the hospital.

Not as nice as I was hoping, but nice enough to give me book value for the car, which let me make a down payment on another one. It's just been a long month of hassles over it. Not to mention that I has just paid the car off a month before the fire. More proof that the Universe has a twisted sense of humor.

God.
Well, at least you got something.

I seem to have forgotten to post on Saturday. Oh, well, I was busy wriiting...
So:
6 days...
5 days...

Re: Countdown... - Bob Schroeck - 01-27-2003

4 days... and writing frantically. Why do these things always look like a lot less work from further out? You'd think after 7 books I'd know better...

Re: Countdown... - Bob Schroeck - 01-28-2003

3 days...
It's looking better than it did this time yesterday.

Re: Countdown... - Bob Schroeck - 01-30-2003

2 days...
And it's looking worse now.
Fortunately I took Friday off from work, which gives me another ten hours or so.

Re: Countdown... - Bob Schroeck - 01-30-2003

1 day.
And I honestly don't know if I'll make it. It'll be close. But I'm a little more optimistic than I was yesterday.

Why do I have this image of Bob perched precariously atop a Saturn V booster that is starting to tremble with pre-launch tests? Smile

You mean Alan Shepard's prayer? The one where he's sitting atop the Mercury redstone and saying, "Oh Lord, please don't let me fuck up!"

Reset... - Bob Schroeck - 01-31-2003

In an email I got last night, the project editor said, "You know, we're not going to be around to see this thing until Monday anyway, so take until Sunday." So...
2 days...
And I'm actually feeling rather confident.

We have a hold in the countdown! I repeat - we have a hold in the countdown!
Y'know, that sort of thing always fills me with a sense of relief mingled with annoyance. Relief that I have more time. Annoyance of the variety that says, "You mean I could actually have slacked off just a bit? Geez!"

Re: Reset... - Bob Schroeck - 02-03-2003

0 days, 5 hours, 35 minutes...
I'm at 101006 words. My target is 100K +/- 2000 words. I'm about to do one last pass to tweak and finish anything I've left undone. The only reason I'm on here right now is that I need whatever has been generated in the "Quick Brain Pick" thread, otherwise you wouldn't even see me until after midnight.
In order to make things fit, I've had to cut some neat stuff. I'm really sad about that... but look at it this way: that means that in about five months there'll be a new section hanging off the "My Worlds" page on my website, where you'll learn about the Xigana, the Bioprobes, and a few other beasties, if I decide to flesh'em out for the site.
Wish me luck. I'm in the final stretch.

Midnight for me, EST -- 11 PM for them. Doesn't matter, I didn't send it off until 12:55 AM anyway.

No, you got the time zone calculation backwards, unless I'm mis-remembering and they're actually in Nova Scotia. Midnight CST is 1 a.m. EST.
So you were on time!
