Evangelion Songs - Jorlem - 02-07-2011 The newest thread in Shadowjack's Evangelion IWIW has had a number of songs posted that readers think of as related to the show. It might be something to take a look at, assuming you haven't already seen it. (They start at post #11) Also, I was wondering, what would Komm Susser Tod, from End of Evangelion, do if Doug heard it? ----- Stand between the Silver Crystal and the Golden Sea. "Youngsters these days just have no appreciation for the magnificence of the legendary cucumber." --Krityan Elder, Tales of Vesperia. - Dartz - 02-07-2011 Also. Released March 29th, according to Amazon, IIRC. That surprised me a bit. ________________________________ --m(^0^)m-- Wot, no sig? - Bob Schroeck - 02-07-2011 Oh dear god, that is not a song I want Doug to express as a power. At all. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Bob Schroeck - 02-07-2011 Oh, and if I were a poster on that forum -- and if the song stuff had continued past the first few messages -- I would have suggested the following: "Engel" (Rammstein) Wer zu Lebzeit gut auf Erden wird nach dem Tod ein Engel werden den Blick gen Himmel fragst du dann warum man sie nicht sehen kann Erst wenn die Wolken schlafengehn kann man uns am Himmel sehn wir haben Angst und sind allein Gott weiss ich will kein Engel sein Sie leben hinterm Sonnenschein getrennt von uns unendlich weit sie mussen sich an Sterne krallen (ganz fest) damit sie nicht vom Himmel fallen Erst wenn die Wolken schlafengehn kann man uns am Himmel sehn wir haben Angst und sind allein Gott weiss ich will kein Engel sein Erst wenn die Wolken schlafengehn kann man uns am Himmel sehn wir haben Angst und sind allein Gott weiss ich will kein Engel sein (Official English translation, which is rather... free ![]() Live in virtue, no desire In the grave an angel's choir You look to heaven and wonder why No one can see them in the sky Just as the clouds have gone to sleep Angels can be seen in heaven's keep Alone in fear they question why Goddamn not an angel when I die Angels live, they never die Apart from us, behind the sky They're fading souls who've turned to ice So ashen white in paradise Just as the clouds have gone to sleep Angels can be seen in heaven's keep Alone in fear they question why Goddamn not an angel when I die Goddamn an angel when I die Heaven must be hell in the sky Artist: CrüXshadows Song: Winterborn (This Sacrifice) Album: Ethernaut Dry your eyes and quietly bear this pain with pride For heaven shall remember the silent and the brave And promise me they will never see the fear within our eyes (my eyes are closed) We will give strength to those who still remain So bury fear, for fate draws near And hide the signs of pain With noble acts, the bravest souls Endure the heart's remains Discard regret, that in this debt A better world is made That children of a newer day might remember And avoid our fate (Prepare for battle) And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be your light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winter born Without denying, a faith is come That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winter born Hold your head up high for there is no greater love Think of the faces of the people you defend (you defend) And promise me they will never see the tears within our eyes (my eyes are closed) Although we are men, with mortal sins, angels never cry So bury fear, for fate draws near And hide the signs of pain With noble acts, the bravest souls Endure the heart's remains Discard regret, that in this debt A better world is made That children of a newer day might remember And avoid our fate (Prepare for battle) And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be your light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winter born Without denying, a faith in God That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winter born And in the fury of this darkest hour I will be your light A lifetime for this destiny For I am Winter born And in this moment I will not run It is my place to stand We few shall carry hope Within our bloodied hands (bloodied hands) Within this moment I am for you, though better men have failed I will give my life for love For I am Winter born And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be the light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winter born Without denying, a faith in man That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winter born And in my dying I'm more alive, than I have ever been I will make this sacrifice For I am Winter born ...And just for Pen-pen: I don't go for fancy cars For diamond rings Or movie stars I go for penguins Oh Lord I go for penguins Throw your money out the door We'll just sit around And watch it snow I go for penguins Oh Lord I go for penguins Penguins are so sensitive Penguins are so sensitive Penguins are so sensitive To my needs Penguins are so sensitive Penguins are so sensitive Penguins are so sensitive To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs Penguins are so sensitive Penguins are so sensitive Penguins are so sensitive To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs To my needs -- Lyle Lovett, "Penguins" -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Jorlem - 02-07-2011 When Shadowjack did the Kaworu episode, he posted the lyrics of Ode to Joy, with translation, while describing the action as it was lined up with the song. I've never actually knew what that song was saying before now. And yeah, I agree that Doug would never let that songs power see activate. If he ever heard it once, he'd probably set his helmet to filter out that song in it's entirety. (He can do that, right? I seem to remember something about him having audio filters to keep his powers from activating if he would hear music unintentionally.) ----- Stand between the Silver Crystal and the Golden Sea. "Youngsters these days just have no appreciation for the magnificence of the legendary cucumber." --Krityan Elder, Tales of Vesperia. - Bob Schroeck - 02-08-2011 He doesn't actually have active filtering, but his helmet is soundproof and he can if needs cut off the relay of external sounds to his ears. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Wiregeek - 02-08-2011 disappointment reigns, I thought I had a killer 'to hell with it all, end the world in flame' song - Armageddon It, by Def Leppard. Cue my disappointment when the song is not about destroying everything, as I had remembered, but about scoring chicks. Quote:"Armageddon It""No can brain today. Want cheezeburger." From NGE: Nobody Dies, by Gregg Landsman http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5579457/1/NGE_Nobody_Dies - Jorlem - 02-10-2011 Shadowjack made what is almost an AMV, but without any sound or moving pictures. Yeah, 'Fly me to the Moon' could be a useful power song. But twenty different variations on it in a row? Not so useful, if I'm remembering how Doug's power works correctly. (I'm envisioning someone who Doesn't Quite Get It buying him this as a Christmas present... either because they figure, hey, big collection, lots of cool songs to pick through... or they might think the different versions might actually work differently for him...) -- Sucrose Octanitrate. Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode. - Bob Schroeck - 03-30-2011 Different versions do work differently for him. The canonical example is the Simon and Garfunkel version of "Hazy Shade of Winter" vs. the Bangles' version. The first chills the air and puts little patches of snow and ice on the ground around him. The second gives him ice powers. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - ECSNorway - 03-30-2011 So a couple of dozen slight variations on the same song... hmm. One might give him interplanetary flight capabilities, another might make him a Fred Astaire-level dancer.... -- Sucrose Octanitrate.
