It's alive! - ordnance11 - 07-28-2007 I finally got my PC (nicknamed Alpha) back from the shop...he's been evolving over the past 3 years into his current configuration. My principle always has been more banf for the buck (why pay top dollar when it can be yours for half price in 3 months?) Ugrades: 1. Replaced motherboard with a Asus P5Pe-VM 2. Replaced CPU from 2.0 to 3.4 ghz. 3. Replaced the data drive from 250 to 500 gig. 4. Replaced the graphics card from an ATI 5950 to an nvidia Geoforce 6800 GT (thanks for the advice crhis) 5. Upgraded the power supply to 500 watts. 6. Installed a raid array with two 80 gig hard drives. 7. Replaced the former tv tuner card with an Asus P-7131 tuner card. 8. Installed an MSI dual net card (LAN and BT) 9. Replaced the old (2X) DVD-RW with the current version. 10. Installed 2 more auxiallry cooling fans for a grand total 3 auxillary cooling fans plus the fans for the graphics card, the cpu, power supply. Total cost less labor is 800 bucks. The only thing left that's still the original components 3 years ago is the case. I'm tempted to call my PC Frankie now. hehe. __________________ Into terror!, Into valour! Charge ahead! No! My father replaced the head. I replaced the handle. And Yet, this is my Grandfather's axe... or is it? The only thing that's the same is the shell. SO is it a new model or a variation? __________________ Into terror!, Into valour! Charge ahead! No! Since then, I've torn it apart and rebuilt it twice, replacing everything but the power supply, graphics cards, sound card, and hard drive. Even the OS has been wiped and replaced. The power supply is getting replaced in September, the two 6600GTs will be replaced by an 8800GTX soon (as soon as I can get ~$600) after, and the hard drive is now second fiddle to a 500GB SATA drive. When I'm done, the only original component that'll still be doing its original job will be the sound card. Will it still be the same computer?-------------------- I'll snap your neck like a tomato! The file server is the BitBucket. If it's hooked up to the television, it's the IdiotBox. And my main box is always Navi (ref: Serial Experiments Lain). Regardless of the fact that Navi has been through: 3 cases 6 motherboards 7 videocards 11 processors a slew of harddrives 7 optical drives and a partridge in a pear tree. Re: re:ahem - Kokuten - 07-30-2007 32-bit partridge or 64?Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979 Re: re:ahem - Xenoproctologist - 07-31-2007 32-bit, because the Windex hasn't yet been digitally signed for use in cleaning 64-bit partridge poo off of Windows. Finally - ordnance11 - 08-04-2007 Got everythng hooked up. Still have aproblm with the Sata arry (the 2nd drive boot partition is corrupted, but it'll still boot up) I'll have to reformat or either that switchback to IDE. The good news is that buring a dvd just went from 2 hours to an hour. __________________ Into terror!, Into valour! Charge ahead! No!
