Numbers- copied from eyrie.net forum - Kokuten - 04-25-2007 For those in the curious, assuming a dyson sphere of 1au radius, which we can't, and an exact sphere, which we can't, and a perfectly flat track around the entire sphere, which we can't, we get the following invalid, but impressive, numbers. The hypothetical track would be 1,512,706,032 Miles long, and at 120mph, take 12,605,883.6 Hours or 525245 Days or 75035 Weeks or 1443 Years over a thousand _years_ to drive the sphere. That's some beef, there! Edit: fixed diameter/radius confusion. A dyson sphere of 1au _diameter_ would be excitingly hot. fixed my calculations, and did some more. Again, this hypothesizes things that we can't know, specifically an earth-orbit AU sized sphere, and a perfect sphere. Land Area 3,534,038,715,220,621,215 sq km 1,364,500,034,448,275,905 sq mi Land Area of the Earth, for reference. 196,935,000 sq mi 510,059,287 sq km #1/#2 gives us 6,928,682,227 times the surface area of the earth, which is an excitingly large number, especially when you consider that it's blatantly, obviously, Too Bloody Small, due to the increased usage of the inside of the sphere's framework. Given the current population of the planet, at 6,590,974,617, there's still enough surface area to give _every person alive_ their own earth-sized patch of Sphere. UF-Gryphon is not going to run shy on real estate, not for a _long_ time. I'm going to bed now, mind thoroughly boggled can someone double-check my circumference numbers again? that's.. that's a _lot_ of land.
