Spike? Woah. - robkelk - 12-18-2008 Anime News Network: Keanu Reeves Hopes to Star in Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Okay, Keanu's (roughly) the right look for the part, but doesn't Spike actually have emotions? -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Wiregeek - 12-18-2008 .....don't know if want. "No can brain today. Want cheezeburger." From NGE: Nobody Dies, by Gregg Landsman http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5579457/1/NGE_Nobody_Dies - Bob Schroeck - 12-18-2008 Yeah, ol' Keanu doesn't have that great a rep for depth of portrayal, but I'd wait until at least the movie is filming before forming an opinion. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Star Ranger4 - 12-18-2008 Yeah, but you don't really see any of them other than aggravation and greed till the end where he buys it. Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky? That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry- NO QUARTER!!! -- "No Quarter", by Echo's Children - robkelk - 01-16-2009 And now it's official - this project is a go. Apparently, the movie's plot is based on the first episode of the anime... so possibly (probably?) no Faye, Ed, or Ein. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Bob Schroeck - 01-16-2009 Pity. I'd pay good money to see Faye and/or Ed with the right peformers. No, I don't know who the right performers would be. I suspect a suit would think Faye=Angelina Jolie, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work at all. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Acyl - 01-16-2009 Well, they're saying it's inspired by the first episode. Certainly the drug angle at least. How far it'll be based on those actual events remains to be seen. Bear in mind you probably can't get a much of a full movie-length narrative out of the events of that episode straight out... ...and the fact that, well, if it's a Cowboy Bebop movie, they know fans will probably want to see the rest of the main cast. That makes me think the full crew will be there, at least in some capacity. -- Acyl - Kurisu - 01-17-2009 ...and Welsh Corgis are quite trainable. The one I have is a blast to play with, and it's funny as hell watch him problem solve stuff. (I.E. getting a turkey frank out of a empty 2 litre bottle.) _____ DEATH is Certain. The hour, Uncertain... - robkelk - 01-18-2009 And here's Keanu made up as Spike, beside a poster for the anime movie... ![]() -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - OpMegs - 01-18-2009 So....Keanu's Spike look is apparently like he just rolled out of bed and didn't bother combing his hair? Somehow, I always thought Spike's was something closer to an afro. --- "Oh, silver blade, forged in the depths of the beyond. Heed my summons and purge those who stand in my way. Lay waste." - Sweno - 01-18-2009 I expected to at least see the yellow shirt with messed up collar -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy - Star Ranger4 - 01-18-2009 Well, to be fair Ops it DOES look fairly close to Spike's normal hair, close enough that only us Nitpickers would bitch. He needs the rest of the outfit though. otherwise its just Keanu with bed hair. Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky? That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry- NO QUARTER!!! -- "No Quarter", by Echo's Children - robkelk - 01-18-2009 Also to be fair, that's Keanu made up as Spike, not Keanu dressed as Spike... -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Black Aeronaut - 01-23-2009 *SIGHS* American companies really shouldn't try to do live-action versions of anime stuff. They simply do not get it. RE: Spike? Woah. - Bob Schroeck - 11-28-2018 Welp, we all saw how well that 2009 project turned out. Which is to say, not at all. But fear not. Netflix is going to make their own live-action Cowboy Bebop: Story on Kotaku.com Story on IO9/Gizmodo No cast is announced yet, but the first episode will be written by the screenwriter of Thor: Ragnarok. Shinichiro Watanabe will be on board to consult on the production. An order for an initial ten episodes has been placed. RE: Spike? Woah. - classicdrogn - 11-28-2018 Hm, well, based on my impression of his body of work, having Nabeshin on board is at least a cautiously positive sign. One consultant is hardly the measure of an entire series' potential, but cautiously positive. RE: Spike? Woah. - Bob Schroeck - 11-28-2018 Sorry, wrong Watanbe -- Nabeshin is Shinichi Watanabe. RE: Spike? Woah. - classicdrogn - 11-28-2018 D'oh. Well, having the original show's creator involved is still a good sign. RE: Spike? Woah. - Bob Schroeck - 11-28-2018 Indeed it is. RE: Spike? Woah. - Labster - 11-29-2018 Either way, I expect this version to Tank. RE: Spike? Woah. - Norgarth - 11-29-2018 (11-29-2018, 01:02 AM)Labster Wrote: Either way, I expect this version to Tank. |
