Kyokai no Rinne - Rumiko Takahashi's new manga - robkelk - 04-12-2009

Mentioned by our group's newest member, over on Usenet... (and it's okay to talk about new manga here too, Arnold!)

Rumiko Takahashi's new manga is titled Kyokai no Rinne - there's a http://www.furinkan.com/images/kyokainorinne.jpg]two-page spread for it in Shonen Sunday.

As I mentioned over on Usenet, I think the design of the female character might actually be new...

So it'll be good for the first.. 50 or so chapters and then go on and on and on and on and on and on..... -_-

I like Takahashi-sensei and all... but sheesh, pacing lady! >

I'm waiting for the female lead to be a total Tsundere to her love interest and Sweetness and Light personified to everyone else.

In an interesting move, ViZ will be releasing it online at approx. the same time as the Japanese version...

So, who's taking bets on whether this will stop the scanlators or not?

Shinsen-Subs wasn't even fazed by the near-simulcast FMA, so... I say it won't. Smile

Read it. Gonna hafta reserve judgment until next week or three. But so far I like Sakura Mimiya, the main character and Chihua-chan is a hoot.

However, I am a bit concerned that Takahashi jumped on the "Shinigami Train" like Death Note and Bleach.

Yes, the Bleach influence is pretty obvious. It's unfortunate the main character doesn't have much personality beyond being phlegmatic, but the
"Tsundere" prediction you made (just like Kyoko Otonashi?) certainly doesn't like accurate so far. I hope this isn't a "monster of the
week" story, though.

Sakura seems pleasant enough. At least she seems to have a better head on her shoulders than some of the idiot girls we see in anime and manga (which I've
most recently com across in K-ON!... Still like the show, though....)

But it seemed like more of a set-up of the basic premise (girl sees ghosts, guy is a shinigami, etc.) and perhaps the story will start clicking in the next
chapter.
