Gah. Just opened up Recent Changes, and just as I feared, it appears Magnificent Bastard is now the replacement Complete Monster for those (like Doc Colress) who simply can't abide life without their favorite fanwank.

As long as everybody understands the ground rules, I don't see a problem with that. (The problem with CM was that some people didn't understand the ground rules.)

Hm. First edit of Doc's I look at, and he's deleted an entry from a YMMV page in favor of his own interpretation.

And as long as they don't redefine Magnificent Bastard into "Complete Monster with the serial numbers filed off".

EDIT: Which is what it looks like Doc's doing. And looking at the sheer volume of stuff he's posting -- 10Kb at a pop on the average, every couple minutes -- he's been planning this for a while. If he can't get his vision of Complete Monster into the wiki under its proper name, by god he's going to sneak it in under another.

Which I see DocColress is trying to do. I just rolled back his changes to the main Magnificent Bastard page and put a big moderator note at the toip of hte page.

May as well keep his hatred focused on one person. I've undone that edit, re-added the new text he provided, and put the required official warning on his Talk page.

Hm. I may have overreacted -- some of the content appears to have been moved out of the main Anime page to new subpages, but he's still created a lot more material than was there in the first place.

What is up with the wiki today? It's been cycling between fast and peppy and so sluggish it looks almost dead. I'd almost prefer 503 errors to pages that take literal minutes to load.

According to GMT, it is now March 23. That means it's time again for comments regarding anonymous editing.

Since the discussion was going down the same path it did the last time, plus some explanatory posts for folks who didn't read the thread, and since we're all at home self-isolating, I decided to bring this round to an early end. Why waste the time?

Bob, you're being much nicer to TV Garbage than I would have been. Removing text from a YMMV page without an explanation...

Except it wasn't quite without explanation. I figured it was different enough to merit a suggestion, not a tempban.

Some sick s.o.b. has sabotaged the Wiki, it seems:  I opened the home page 5 minutes ago, and it showed an explicit anime porn scene.

Yeah, I stumbled over that and fixed it. Unfortunately, it sat there for some three hours before I found it. The logo image was unprotected and the little bastard "updated" it.

Did you inform the Stewards that this "little bastard" violated Item 7 of the Miraheze Terms of Service?

We can only permban the account on ATT. The Stewards can permaban it across all of Miraheze.

Can anyone explain to me why the wiki seems to be on a repeating cycle of 503s and decent connections with a period of approximately five minutes from peak to peak?

Locked out but, quote, "No evidence of a Terms of use violation".  Probably because of how I handled the image.  <sigh>

I think I have a lead on where that sicko came from. Apparently, some butthurt ex-members of some Miraheze wikis have been making attack articles about the wikis they got banned from and vandalizing their former homes and Miraheze in general as "revenge". Encyclopedia Dramatica has even gotten targeted by these idiots (the same ones writing the attack articles there) and is fed up apparently with being the middleman for this garbage and has been getting rid of those idiots according to their logs.

Basically, we got caught in the crossfire of some fool with a stupid grudge against Miraheze.

Thanks for fixing the hole in our security on that front.

In more serious news, I'm in a low infection area for COVID-19, so if anyone needs me to step in in case you or someone you are close to gets it, let me know and I'll be willing to fill in until this pandemic nonsense is over.

Just changed the sitenotice to draw attention to our "Source" pages.

Just our way to help stave off boredom during the pandemic, eh?

I just had a thought...

Category:Source says in part:
Quote:Works distributable under free content licenses such as fanfiction with clearly defined licenses may also be put on these pages, but must contain clear copyright notices for whatever license applies to the work on every page.

I know of one work that qualifies under that description - this very forum is named after it - but it's written by an admin who isn't me so I don't know whether I should post it to ATT.

You could just ask, you know...

I have no problems with DW and its affiliated works being posted to the wiki, as long as they're kept up to date and I'm not the one responsible for it. <grin>

We have three different images used by three different pages, and I think we can use one image on all three pages. Which of these images do we want to keep?

Hm. I'd say the first, "Dewey defeats truman.jpg". It's the classic shot (unlike the second image) and isn't cropped as tightly as the third ("truey.jpg").

Agreed - I've updated the pages (and categories) to use "Dewey defeats truman.jpg"

I still can't delete images, so I've marked the other two for speedy deletion.
