COVID-19 Check-in Thread Part II
COVID-19 Check-in Thread Part II
#1
And because we're just about to hit 300 messages on the original COVID-19 Check-in Thread, it's time to create a new one.  News from our area is that the newly-opened barbershops and salons have three-hour-plus waiting times...

Still plugging away here.

As soon as we hear back from my Uncle (as to whether or not we can do this at his place or not), I'm going to be rebuilding the transmission in my Mom and Dad's old Suburban.

The issue was pretty easy to diagnose, really.  Shifts from 1st to 2nd just fine, but once it hits 3rd the engine takes off like it suddenly went into Neutral instead.

In the 4L60E automatic transmissions, this means pretty much one thing: a burned out clutchpack - specifically the one for gears 3 and 4.  The reason this happens is because the materials used back then (the Burbie is a '93) are nowhere nearly as good as the materials used now.  So, what happens is that over time, the piston for the 3-4 clutchpack wears out and lets fluid blow by.  Which means there isn't as much pressure being applied to the clutchpack when it's supposed to be engaged, thus letting it slip and eventually burn out.

Fortunately, the rebuild kits have parts made with much sterner stuff, and the ones intended to replace the 3-4 piston also come with pretty much everything else you might want to replace while you're that deep into the thing.  Once I'm done with this, the transmission should never give us any trouble again.

Provided we properly maintain the thing, anyhow.  After all this, though, my folks are gonna be on top of it.  No more rebuilds for us, thank you very much.

Still here. We're up go "family-sized" bubbles now, so we all got together for Father's Day. Heat wave weather, a pool, a barbeque, and plenty of fun all around. Exactly what the doctor ordered. (Actually, I think the doctor would still go into hysterics just because, but since we've all been covid-free all pandemic, I'm sure we're okay. [Image: biggrin.png] )

Also, the fun of watching an eighteen-something niece inch her way delicately into the pool because she wants to get in "at her own speed" for over fifteen minutes, while everyone else intentionally splashes her is pure comedy gold.

Now that reminds me of how I met my Sig Other of 15 years. She was doing that and I pointed out that it was best to 'just get it over with" *Push* *Splash* *Shreik*

Still alive here, still working from home.  The reopening is slowly starting to reverse itself as people here in California realize things are getting pretty bad again.  Today, the governor politely suggested that our bars should close.  I'm pretty sure that in a week it will be an order.  It's too bad, since they just reopened, but hey, California is already famous for catching really big waves.

And I'm sure some of those bars will NOT reopen once this is all over. See: added economic damage caused by having to reclose because they tried to reopen too quickly. And I'm sure that, looking down the barrel of "not sure the next allowed reopening is going to be the end of this dark tunnel," some of those places will just throw in the towel and take the loss of the business.

So far here in Colorado, the hospitalization curve hasn't been bending back upward. Yet. But we're also still doing a very measured slow reopening. At least one of the barcades (three locations) has made noises about the casinos getting a massively reduced capacity allowance with their machines, yet they feel they can't reopen themselves because their arcade and pinball lineup must be completely off and roped off so there's not much point.

Oh, definitely. Cirque du Soleil has filed for bankruptcy protection; what chance does a mom-and-pop business have if a giant can be hit that way?

Ah, yes - I'm still alive and well.

Though when my Nephew mentioned this over dinner to be honest I was not surprised.  Gov Newsom, has declared in response (no, I'm putting words in his mouth)  "You all can't behave?  FINE!!!  NO 4TH OF JULY BEACH PARTIES FOR YOU!!!!"  (IE he has ordered the public beaches closed for the 4th weekend)

In the scary news department...

Neil, one of my roommates, has been diagnosed as asymptomatic positive for covid. Rob, the other roommate, is also positive, has bacterial pneumonia, and is in the hospital on oxygen. I'm negative.

The two of us still at home are in quarantine, and basically hermit-ing in our rooms for the next half month. Hopefully, I get tested in 15 days and am still negative, Neil gets tested and is at that point negative, and Rob comes back after a hospital stay, cured. Given our relative medical conditions, I'm not sure how high I'd rate Rob and Neil's chances. So it's sit and wait time.

Had to visit my doctor yesterday for a prescription renewal.  Blood tests taken two weeks prior were almost all very good (triglycerides were too high, but that may have been a thing of just that day).  But my blood pressure the day of the renewal was problematically high.  Gosh, looking about at the state of the world, I wonder why?  I have to go back in two weeks for a test to see if I'm developing heart problems, and then at the end of July again to see what the triglyceride count looks like.

No symptoms of COVID-19 — calloo, callay — but that might just mean I'm asymptomatic.  Frabjous; simply frabjous.

still working, but my truck decided to develop a hole in the gas tank, and that is $1100 fix. I have a car to drive while the truck is being fixed. That's an expense I didn't need, now.

OUch.  I (kind of) had a car like that.  The hole was the engine. *rimshot*

Just a thought. When you have security guards on a hotel containing travelers under quarantine, the guards really shouldn't have sex with the travelers.

In a COMPLETELY UNRELATED note, my state is having a massive outbreak again and some postcodes down in Melbourne are under lockdown until the end of the month. A large number of people are also apparently deciding to violate that lockdown and/or refuse to take tests. *Long-suffering sigh*

I'm still here.

Planning a BBQ in early august and a getaway with friends next week.

The lockdown has worked. The virus is dead.

I love the smell of rotaries in the morning. You know one time, I got to work early, before the rush hour. I walked through the empty carpark, I didn't see one bloody Prius or Golf. And that smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole carpark, smelled like.... ....speed.

One day they're going to ban them.
