Steinman seems to inspire that kind of polarity in people. Either they love him or hate him -- there's rarely anyone in the middle. Some people do find his Wagnerian rock'n'roll style way too bombastic, others think he hammers them over the head too much with musical and lyrical hooks, still others think his penchant for clever turns of phrase borders on the trite.
I'm not them, but I don't begrudge them their dislikes.
