It's an indy rpg that was just ported to the Switch (it is also on Steam). The game is influenced by Earthbound/Mother series. The characters with Erma are Sans and Papyrus.

A notion that keeps going through my head is of the youkai suddenly realizing, "Wait.  You're that Sam Williams?" and much tension being defused as it turns out he's an amazingly popular author among them — maybe even with Emiko's dad.  Or Fumiko or Rin....

I'm not predicting it will happen or for that matter saying it should happen.  I just keep thinking about the possibility.  The inspiration for my imagining this was a scene in the movie Romancing the Stone, when Kathleen Turner's character learned that public readings of her bodice-ripper novels were the entertainment in a village of Colombian coca growers ... and menacing guys with machetes, who'd thought she might be a narcotics cop, were suddenly all fawning smiles.
