Someone check if this still exists because otherwise I vote to delete.

It exists. Updating the wiki page now...

EDIT: Something in that page is causing the wiki engine to think there's a level-one header somewhere in the text - if my investigation is right, it's some place in the "Tropes U-Z" section that I just created, but I can't find it.

I see you've managed to fix that level-one header effect -- or is the bug just not manifesting in Chrome?

Oh, and there's a redlink at the very bottom for a Drinking Game. We need to check TVT or the Wayback Machine to find out if it ever existed... because it's certainly not in the wiki right now.

That it does. We aren't always the shiny happy group we seem to be on the wiki...

So the last couple days I found myself, without any real intention or plan, going through the "Pages Needing Restoration" page and, well, restoring pages.  Some of them.  A few were already restored and not taken off the list.  And a few didn't actually have anything saved in the Wayback Machine so there was no way to restore them.

For those of you who haven't come across this page before, it's a list of known pages purged by TVT in the months before the fork.  It has always been one of our goals to restore as much of this lost material as we could, as an in-your-face defiance of their censorship regime.

After today, though, I wonder if we should have left a couple of pages lost.  This afternoon I restored, among other things, two works -- one a Euroshlock movie about a man who has a sexual relationship with a pig, and the other a webcomic devoted to endlessly torturing and killing a small group of beautiful girl secret agents.

And god do I feel dirty for doing so.

It says something sad when the single largest page I've restored so far is the one for the work glorifying torture and murder.

Luckily the list seems to be getting even shorter over time, so we will soon not even have to face too much, especially if some of these don't have archives.

Our content policies make it clear that legal fiction counts, even if we have great distaste for it. And making sure the reasons why it got originally deleted don't return, which is part of our policy anyway.

Luckily for all of us, restoring such pages is an incredibly minor aspect of any of our work, and you can take a long break from having your conscience fucked.

Also check if that webcomic even exists anymore anywhere, if you need to circumvent.

I managed to restore one of those pages. Just one.

That job is more difficult than it looks.

Thank you for being willing to take it on.

I'll quote myself from this time last year (and from my User page):
Quote:Because it came up in discussion with the other moderators in September 2016: There are some things that Rob dislikes in fiction - torture, rape, and sexualization of minors top that list. However, not mentioning these things on the wiki is, in his mind, the same as pretending that they don't exist - and that's even worse.
(Yeah, I lifted the sentiment from the Looney Tunes Golden Collection discs. Doesn't make it any less true.)

A quick Googling reveals that the webcomic in question is still live, or appears to be. It looks like the author released a new installment early this year.

(... And that's how I learned that without double-checking, I'm capable of mixing up Seikon no Qwaser and The Qualia of Purple.)

Actually, I poked through the list and noticed that one of those entries already has a page, just without the Visual_Novel tacked on the end. Which isn't to say there might not be a content discrepancy between them.

ETA: Similar applies to Shoujo Sect.

Yeah, I don't remember how we generated the original list, but I think a good quarter of the "missing" pages weren't actually missing. Although they frequently were an earlier version than the last one to be found in the Wayback Machine -- whenever I noticed that, I updated the page to match.

Hoshizora no Memoria has two existing pages too. (The other one has capitalized "No".)

The "Banned on TV Tropes" category makes for really weird reading sometimes. Porn, porn, disturbing fanfic, porn... Detached Sleeves? One of these things is not like the others...

It's that most beloved time of week again -- the 503 Backend Fetch Failed festival.

ETA: I am premature in my pessimism. It cleared up almost immediately.

The 503s decided to visit for a moment, again...

(Although I see that my latest contribution to the Big List of Booboos was saved, luckily. "tenure"/"ten year" in case Bob wants to add it to his base list.)

Tomorrow is the year anniversary of my joining, and I today hit my target of making 15,000 edits, which I knew was possible a couple of months ago before the year deadline was over.

Surprised I've contributed as much as I have, even if it wasn't in the way most do.

The even more fascinating part is that deletions (and I imagine some other administrative parts) don't count towards the total, meaning I've probably done even more.

BTW editcount claims you have 4K more than me, which are you basing your number on?

Huh, I didn't even know there was an Editcount page for MediaWiki. I was looking at my Preferences page.
