A note about the thread title: The title of the thread is taken from the book of Jeremiah 44:15-18. In this passage, about ten years after the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians, survivors that fled to Egypt engage in a debate with Jeremiah and they make clear that they still cannot find fault with their beliefs in foreign gods and that everything would still be well if not for Jeremiah pointing out what was actually happening.
“We can never undo what we have done. We can never go back in time. We write history with our decisions and our actions. But we also write history with our responses to those actions. We can leave the pain and the damage in our wake, unattended, or we can do the work of acknowledging and fixing, to whatever extent possible, the harm that we have caused.”
