Japanese Ice Cream
Japanese Ice Cream
#1
(I'm not sure whether this belongs here or in General/General - if I goofed, please move the thread.)
While browsing through an English translation of the Mainichi Daily News website (yes, I know it's the Japanese equivalent of the National Enquirer, but it's still fun to look at the pictures), I discovered a couple of pictorials that may be useful in DW V: Japanese Ice Cream (or "Aisu").
The Wacky World of Ice Cream
and
The Wackier World of Ice Cream
Some of my... well, "favourites" isn't the right word...
Sanma Aisu - saury (a saltwater fish) and brandy flavour
Gyutan Aisu - ox tongue flavour
Yaki-imo - sweet potato flavour
Yaki Nasu Aisu - fried eggplant flavour
Tomorokoshi Aisu - corn flavour
Sakura Ebi Aisu - shrimp flavour (with whole shrimp)=
Nagoya Kishimen - ice cream with noodles
Nagoya Tebasaki - fried chicken wing flavour
Saboten Aisu - cactus flavour
Basashi Aisu - raw horseflesh flavour
Fukahire Ramen Aisu - shark fin flavour, with noodles
Umi no Mizu Aisu - sea-water flavour
Horenso Aisu - spinach flavour
Dorakyura Aisu - no, not "Dracula flavour", although that's what the name says. It's garlic flavour!
Gozukon Aisu - sesame, soybean, and dried kelp flavour (it's good for you!)
Retasu Poteto Aisu - like the name says, lettuce and potato flavour
Kinu Aisu - smooth as silk, because that's what's in it...
Kuro Biiru Aisu - black beer flavour (one for Paradox to enjoy...)
Chuurippu Aisu - you guessed it, tulip flavour

Oh, cool resource. We've got Skuld with a bowl of rocky road in the current chapter, maybe I'll change it.
Mmm, and I just thought of a place in ch 2 where part of this list would be perfect...
Thanks, Rob!

It's spelt "Frodo Baggins" but it's pronounced "Throat-wobbler Mangrove."

What, and lost the Weird Al reference?
(Digression: Song power for I Love Rocky Road, by "Weird Al" Yankovik - gives everyone in the area of effect a powerful craving for rocky road ice cream. No discernable effect on Skuld; you can't dampen an ocean, after all.)

Okay, I'll keep her eating Rocky Road. But when Doug looks in her room and sees the Leaning Tower of Ice Cream Tubs, he'll spot a few specifically-Japanese flavors...

Paradox, like me, has a preference for Tiger Tiger.
And anything with Banana. And mint.

And thus, a new note goes into the development file...

I have a hard time, actually, believing that Skuld wouldn't have her own ice cream maker and make wacky flavors a la Iron Chef. YOu know, Bird's Nest and Shark Fin Ice Cream, Rice Congee Ice Cream, uhhh . . . Steak Ice Cream. Stuff like that.

who says that the ice cream thing has gone away in recent chapters of the manga.

Will shark fin noodle ice cream do?

The story is set in the OAV continuity, with some manga elements - there's no reason to ignore the secondary power sources the megami have...

Yes, especially considering I spent a chunk of OMB Ch 11 establishing Paradox's as artificial sweetener.--
