International Plain Language Day

October 13 is International Plain Language Day

No, I didn't know either, until I got an office email about it.

Here is a good thing to help you make your words more simple.

I did this at work some months ago:

Remove set of ten hundred most used words

The same stuff is somewhere else, so we don't need it any more.
So a whole area of company stuff goes away, very cool.

Eh. I'm an engineer in-training. For us, plain language isn't usually an option. Even when trying to dumb things down for other people. Because sometimes that dumb person is the guy to whom you need to justify an expensive and critically needed part/tool, and you can only dumb things down to an extent before you have to start explaining other things. Why? That's the word right there. Just like Mindy in the Animaniacs, they're always gonna keep asking "Why?" until you get tired or they're finally satisfied. Why? Because even if you say "Without this it goes boom" they're gonna want to know why it goes boom. Why? Because they want to know if there's a way to do things cheaper. Why? Because if he can make this cheaper, he gets more money, and everyone likes having more money.
