Oh, bleep no, Asian Giant Hornets have arrived in North America
Oh, bleep no, Asian Giant Hornets have arrived in North America

New York Times, so may (will almost certainly) end up behind a pay wall, ‘Murder Hornets’ in the U.S.: The Rush to Stop the Asian Giant Hornet. Worries are both for local bee populations, as well as people considering that receiving multiple stings can be lethal to humans even if you aren't allergic. To put it another way, the Fount of All Knowledge notes that one nickname for this bug is yak-killer hornet.

2020 can go do anatomically inappropriate and unlikely things to itself.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer.

Yeah, saw this article as well. American honey bees are absolutely helpless, and I strongly suspect that even Africanized Bees will be similarly predated.

If the Giant Hornet does make inroads here in the US, then the only thing we can do will be to bring Japanese honey bees to the US - they are the only species of bees in the world that can possibly defend their hives from these monsters.

This is a legitimate threat that could really do with some help from the Federal government, but given how they handled COVID-19, I'm pretty sure that won't happen.
