[META] If somebody's looking for something to write about...

#51
Wow, I've been busy today - 10 characters and a vehicle, plus a couple of lines in a couple of pages.

The vehicle is Leda's car, http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Haruka]Haruka. She's new.

The characters are a mixed bag, although I think the crews of the Inelegant Truth and Gnarlycurl are now all on the Wiki: I have not updated the http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... cter_Guide]Character Guide.

It's another cleanup day... although I just cleaned up a few broken links by changing "Artificial intelligence" to "Artificial Intelligence". (Page names are case-sensitive in the new FenWiki, folks!)

Mal, are "TemplateBig Grinocumentation", "TemplateBig Grinocumentation, template", and "Template:Template doc" supposed to be the same thing? If they are, we should choose one name and stick with it...

[RFC] for the Face of Mars
#56
In a, slow, attempt to make sure Rob doesn't have to do all of this himself, here's a go at the Face of Mars entry.

Possibly the most well known feature on [[Mars] the '''Face of Mars'' is a rocky mesa in the Cydonia region that, in a famous set of pictures from the Viking missions.  In those pictures it appears to be a carved face, looking up into the sky.  Subsequent missions to Mars were disappointed to learn that the appearance of the face was a combination of shadows and the poor resolution of the orbiting cameras.
Fen being Fen, they dealt with this disappointment by carving their own face out of a nearby mesa using 'waved excavating tools 'borrowed' from the construction of [[Marsbase Sara].  The new '''Face of Mars''' is an oval, androgynous face with overly large eyes and a wide mouth.  The surface of the face has lines carved over it giving the appearance of being constructed from large blocks of stone, even though this is not the case.
In recent years, smooth, elegant humanoid statues have begun appearing on the plains near the new Face.  Dubbed the Fenish Moai they range in size from slightly smaller than a human to taller than a Zentradi. They are carved from native stone, but no-one has admitted to being the carver.

Looks good, Firvulag, but the first sentence is a fragment -- it's missing either a verb somewhere in the middle, or an entire predicate on the end.

Hm. And if we have Moai and the Face... shouldn't we have a monolith somewhere?

I see what you mean.  Well that's what I get for posting something at O'dark thirty.  Yeesh.
And there may well be monoliths, 'though they're more likely to be on the moon or somewhere in the Jovian subsystem.

Just two pages today - Firvulag's http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... uter_Space]weekly strip update and my new article on http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Crystal_Kyoto]Crystal Kyoto which incorporates all three points that we had already established about the city. Additions to the article are welcome.

(I think I've got all the low-hanging fruit now; future FenWiki updates are actually going to take some work...)

Speaking of FenWiki updates reminds me that one needs a user account to make them. I see we're still at only http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... tionSort=1]six FenWiki users as of this posting...

Nine more new pages (and a whole mess'o'edited pages) since the last "new pages" update. The new pages are all linked from http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... n_Fenspace]this page. In the order I created them:
  • Chara
  • Beta Comae Berenices
  • Procyon
  • Sigma Draconis
  • Eta Cassiopeiae
  • P Eridani
  • Gamma Leporis
  • Delta Trianguli
  • 47 Ursae Majoris
The 47 Ursae Majoris page is a data-dump of the three Wikipedia articles about the system, with FenWiki infoboxes added; anyone who wants to clean it up is welcome to do so.

(Speaking of stellar pages and the number nine, I see the Delta Pavonis system has ten planets, nine of which don't yet have names. Considering the name of the one that does, might I suggest the names on http://www.answers.com/topic/norse-cosmology]this page as possibilities for the other planets in the system?)

More importantly, we have two new users since the last "new pages" update! Welcome aboard, Cobalt Greywalker and Star Ranger4!

Okay, kids, the old FenWiki is coming down. You've got until 6PM Mountain to doublecheck that everything you want to port has been ported. After that, that address will no longer work for FW articles.

Now that we have to concentrate on one wiki...

Three new pages since the last update: one http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... _Education]category, one http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... et_Academy]institution which page needs major cleanup, and one http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Fatima_Nuygen]person everyone wishes would just go away.

Lots and lots of crosslinks added. (Not as many "dead-end pages" now.)

One new user account since the last update. Welcome aboard, ECSNorway!

(Early-in-afternoon update is because I have a meeting in five minutes.)

Ugh. I think one of them per universe is enough...

New pages since last "new pages" posting:
Edit: And since then, two more pages: Both by me, because I broke the existing redirects when I redesigned the Main Belt page to match the Interstellar page. I hung a "stub" tag on 2090 Mizuho.

Way too many new pages to list - http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... l:NewPages]go look for yourself.

(No, Mal, that isn't all the Main Belt pages yet. There are still three to go, or five if you insist on the unremarkable rocks getting their own pages.)

(And can anyone make http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... n_Fenspace]Places in Fenspace look prettier than it is now?)

Hey, Rob? Put down the keyboard and go outside for a while. That big lamp in the sky is the sun -- go get to know it!

Seriously, good work.

So is, like, the settlement on 1625 The NORC called "New NORC City"? And Commander McHale? Really? He must get the occasional bout of ribbing.

Hm. I wonder if we ought to have a non-story "article" page on the "Interdimensional Incursion Incident", treating it as a bit of historical data?
Mm.  And there ought to be a facility studying the possibility of handwavium-assisted time travel on Pluto, too, primarily staffed by Senshi.

In my not-so-humble opinion, if we can have Dodge and his crew in Fenspace, we can have McHale and his crew as well.

As for "New NORC City", why not?

I'd like to wait until LoGG is over before writing up the III, just in case something changes from my outline.

As for Pluto, I think Hades Station would like the company...

With http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=3129_Bonestell]3129 Bonestell, http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=3325_TARDIS]3325 TARDIS, and http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=3869_Norton]3869 Norton added to the FenWiki, the asteroids writeup pages are now completely posted. At least, the ones I'm doing are posted - if somebody really wants to research an infobox and write five hundred words on an unpopulated, unremarkable chunk of rock, feel free to write up one of the thousands of other asteroids.

Although I think it's past time we started cutting down the number of http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Category:Stubs]Stub pages rather than creating more new ones. As of this posting, we have 202 stub pages. I'll accept responsibility for fleshing out 20 of those. (That's approximately 10%; that's a good deal, right? Never mind that 19 of them are mine to begin with...)
